The decision of the U.S. administration to reduce the personnel in its embassy in Havana is \u201chasty\u201d and the \u201cGovernment of Cuba has no responsibility whatsoever\u201d in the alleged sonic attacks, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro stated to the press.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe consider that the decision announced by the Department of State is hasty and that it will affect bilateral relations, specifically cooperation in matters of mutual interest and the exchanges in different fields between both countries,\u201d said the general director for the United States of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
Vidal Ferreiro reaffirmed Cuba\u2019s willingness to continue \u201can active cooperation between the authorities of both countries\u201d to fully clarify the alleged sonic attacks on U.S. officials, for which purpose \u201ca more effective involvement by the United States will be essential.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Cuban government \u201cseriously and strictly observes its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations\u201d with regard to the protection \u201cof diplomatic agents accredited in the country and of their family members, without exceptions,\u201d she added in her statement.<\/p>\n
Vidal Ferreiro recalled that Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez Parrilla, during the meeting of Tuesday September 26, with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson:<\/p>\n
– Advised him not to make any hasty decisions, which are not based on evidences and conclusive results of the investigation.<\/p>\n
– Urged him not to politicize a matter of this nature.<\/p>\n
– Reiterated to him the request for effective cooperation of the U.S. authorities to bring to closure the ongoing investigation on the alleged incidents with US diplomats in Havana.<\/p>\n
