The people see finally fulfilled a need and a dream for this fragment primeval city that n a few years will celebrate its 500 years of existence. “The widespread recognition that our work has reached the Cuban people and also in other countries, to understand that at this time only has been possible to do, based on a number of assumptions and concurrence of other state agencies and entities that have incorporated into the plan, under the express indication of President Raul Castro, a work that will have great bearing on the future, ” Eusebio Leal, historian of Havana, and key architect of the restoration of Havana, said recently. This project includes the replacement of 11 km of gas networks and 14 km of water, and the modernization of the electric underground installed in 1925 and that during the last three years triggered the alert after several crashes. “Since 1925 there have been several repairs, but never an integral replacement work in the networks that occurs today,” engineer Mario Delgado Diaz, coordinator of the project and director of Electrical underground networks Project told Habana Radio.

●● ● ● ● ● ● ●● ● ● ●

Since last June 4, when the government company ETECSA opened the service Nauta, with that provided for the first time a commercial solution for public Internet access in Cuba, about 11 000 people have responded to the offer and have become new users. Considering the enormous pent-up demand in the country, with an Internet penetration of only 16 percent of the population, the low figures probably indicate the suspected shortage in service and solvency in other potential consumers. Nauta service is based on prepayment of permanent and temporary connection levels, priced at 4.50 CUC (about 5.00 USD) per hour of full internet browsing, 1. 50 CUC / h for international mail and domestic browsing and 0.60 CUC / h for domestic email service only. ETECSA itself, when announcing the service admitted that rates were high but justified it by explaining the need to raise currency that expand the infrastructure and, gradually increase the volume of supply and then it would lower prices. So far 118 rooms were enabled for navigation across the country, but is expected before the end of 2013, another ten new ones in Pinar del Rio, Ciego de Avila, Camaguey and Havana open to work. It was also reported that they install new Wi-Fi networks and gradually all dial-up networks will be replaced by ADSL technology.

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●● ● ● ●

Until last May 26 1,367,005 passengers had arrived by air in the country, and of those, 91 percent went through the “green channel”, upon their arrival in the country. This figure was reported by the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba when evaluated the redesigned customs procedures implemented in the airports, since January this year. The green channel enables passengers to arrive in the country with their personal effects and articles and products that are not subject to specific regulations or above the limits for exemption (30 kilograms) transit without the need to state the content of their luggage, or weighing it. Customs seeks to enhance this flow of passengers at airports, expedite clearance and standardize the treatment given to passengers. José Luis Muñoz Touch, Technical Director of the Customs said that “this measure, in line with international practice, has a positive impact for passengers, for this their time spent at airports has decreased from 42, 5 minutes in 2011 to 25.5 minutes in the course of this year, they cause less discomfort and operation of the airports is better. “

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●● ● ● ●

A new cigar band that only be marketed only in Cuba, has been presented on June 18. El Rey del Mundo, was founded in 1882 by Antonio Allones. “While it is a low-end brand, maintains its popularity among Habanos smokers due to its quality and taste,” said Habanos SA on its website. Habanos SA forecasts a wide acceptance among smokers and collectors, among other reasons because of the availability of this ephemeral band. “This Regional Edition was developed with the classic blend of the brand, characterized by a mild to medium flavor.
