La Voz\u00a0Kids,\u00a0a singing competition\u00a0forchildren that captivated\u00a0thousands\u00a0(or millions,\u00a0I have\u00a0no\u00a0demographic skills) of people\u00a0in\u00a0Cuba, by dint of\u00a0much\u00a0talent\u00a0of the contestants\u00a0and\u00a0a marvelous\u00a0screening.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Cubans managed, via Internet, or on CDs,\u00a0or\u00a0flash memories,\u00a0to cry\u00a0for\u00a0those who did not\u00a0advance to the next\u00a0round\u00a0and\u00a0laugh with those who\u00a0could do it.\u00a0Since the beginning, they decided, as coaches, who their candidates were, and the topic of child performers went very naturally from the &#8220;outside&#8221; agenda to the &#8220;inside&#8221; one. Today, there must be few places in Cuba where the show has not been seen and especially its outcome.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>People from here say the\u00a0contest was won by the Cuban girl. Others argue she is not from Cuba, she was\u00a0born there, but her parents are\u00a0Cubans, and finally they agree it is just the same.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Paola\u00a0Guanche\u00a0Nuviola, who is\u00a0just 12 years old, had to dip into her\u00a0lineage\u00a0and won\u00a0with\u00a0more than enough\u00a0merits\u00a0the first\u00a0edition of\u00a0La Voz\u00a0Kids.\u00a0Her second\u00a0surname,\u00a0inherited from\u00a0her motherLourdes\u00a0Nuviola, discovers a\u00a0musical\u00a0genetics\u00a0of a\u00a0female duo\u00a0that Cubans stopped listening to it one day\u00a0and\u00a0is now returning\u00a0to the\u00a0national\u00a0affective memory.\u00a0But her other surname,\u00a0Guanche, also carries musical lineage, as Orlando, her father, is a versatile pianist who also contributed to the mix, from which Paola is the result.<\/div>\n<div>Anyway,\u00a0the girl\u00a0dazzled\u00a0everyone\u00a0and left no\u00a0room for\u00a0suspicion,\u00a0or doubt,\u00a0or indecision.\u00a0She sang\u00a0in English\u00a0to attract attention\u00a0in the\u00a0first round,\u00a0and also in the last one,\u00a0to seal the win.\u00a0But she also brought\u00a0back to a\u00a0Celia\u00a0Cruz, who\u00a0passed away\u00a010 years ago, but still impacting us through\u00a0her charisma,\u00a0powerful voice\u00a0and\u00a0stunning\u00a0Cuban identity, which she\u00a0reaffirmed\u00a0at\u00a0just 90 miles from Havana.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And maybe\u00a0because of that\u00a0,\u00a0or\u00a0for reasons\u00a0I can\u00a0not understand, Paola\u00a0got into\u00a0the body of\u00a0Cuba, with her mulatto skin tones,\u00a0tousled\u00a0hair,\u00a0her\u00a0lisp\u00a0when speaking\u00a0and the whole family\u00a0cheering andcrying\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0emotion in the stands.\u00a0She embodies, perhaps, the latest evidence that shows that salt water miles separating Cuba from the mainland in times of internet and digital revolution, are just a symbolic border which is increasingly vulnerable.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For the first time\u00a0the two sides\u00a0of my\u00a0Facebook have\u00a0agreed,\u00a0and\u00a0I have\u00a0only\u00a0comments in harmony.\u00a0It seems that\u00a0the competition,\u00a0and\u00a0particularly the\u00a0winner,\u00a0has touched\u00a0the\u00a0back and forth fiber,\u00a0a good sign\u00a0that\u00a0we can not put\u00a0everything\u00a0in black and white\u00a0,\u00a0and even less,\u00a0feelings.\u00a0People here\u00a0assumes Paola\u2019s triumph as theirs,\u00a0and\u00a0celebrates it as if were an Olympic medal won\u00a0by Dayron Robles\u00a0or\u00a0Mija\u00edn\u00a0Lopez. I do no\u00a0doubt any of\u00a0the votes\u00a0she received came from Cuba or had a Cuban\u00a0connection. People also\u00a0uses\u00a0internet\u00a0to participate.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Perhaps, it will be for the mania\u00a0of taking great delight of\u00a0uniqueness\u00a0and talent,\u00a0or the\u00a0need to\u00a0reaffirm\u00a0them\u00a0whenever\u00a0we have\u00a0the opportunity or m\u00a0aybe because for many, the &#8220;in-out&#8221; and &#8220;there-here&#8221; fractions are not part of the formulas of their lives.
