Cuban First Vice President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel was officially nominated to the presidency of the Council of State and of Ministers of Cuba, which confirms him as Ra\u00fal Castro\u2019s successor. The Assembly already approved the nomination and is voting in secret now, although a different result is not expected.<br \/>\nAs first vice president, Salvador Vald\u00e9s Mesa, almost 73 years old, was nominated as D\u00edaz-Canel\u2019s substitute. Previously he was the General Secretary of the Central Organization of Cuban Trade Unions (CTC) and first secretary of the PCC in the province of Camag\u00fcey.<br \/>\nThe presidency of the National Assembly of People\u2019s Power was ratified, headed by Esteban Lazo.
