The Corals Awards at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema will be very disputed in this 34th edition of the event, which stands out for the quality of the 566 selected films, Alfredo Guevara, president of honor of the event said in a press conference.<\/p>\n
Works by Pablo Trapero directors like Carlos Sorin, Agnes Oliveira, Tata Amaral, Pablo Larrain and Daniel Díaz Torres will compete in the Feature Films Contest. While in the category of Opera Prima 21 works were selected, which mostly recreate the drama of Latin American nations.<\/p>\n
This time the event is dedicated to the centenary of cinema in Puerto Rico and youth, who with their creative talent have rejuvenated national cinema and provide ongoing inspiration to this Festival, founded on December 3, 1979, Guevara said.<\/p>\n
\nFrom December 4th through the 14 moviegoers can enjoy works from 46 countries in the usual Havana movie theaters, although this year the Miramar, which recently opened, will be included as well.<\/p>\n
The directors French Chris Marker, Japanese Kenji Misumi, the Italian Antonioni Machelangelo and Czech Jan Svankmajer will receive tributes in this 34th edition of the Festival with a screening of their best films.<\/p>\n
As usual during these 10 days the latest productions from countries like Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and Canada will be exhibited.<\/p>\n
\nThey will also screen documentary productions from Channel Brazil and from Great Britain; also, there will be exhibitions of experimental, fantasy and horror movies made in Latin America. <\/p>\n
Four seminars for reflection and discussion will take place during the Festival days. "Bridges and more bridges: Latinos in USA" will tell the story of a powerful phenomenon: the Caribbean diaspora in the US and render special tribute to the centenary of cinema in Puerto Rico. Also between the 10th and the 12th they will hold the 26th Meeting "The Audiovisual Universe of Latin American Children and Caribbean”<\/p>\n
Similarly, there will be seminars like: "Europe in Latin America. Confrontation, mixture and dialogue of cultures” and “What is freedom? Answers from cinema and philosophy”, on December 7 and 11 respectively, each time at 3.00pm in the Cuba Pavilion.
