{"id":18377,"date":"2013-11-25T23:11:10","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T23:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oncubamagazine.com\/?p=18377"},"modified":"2018-10-05T12:17:45","modified_gmt":"2018-10-05T16:17:45","slug":"cuba-starts-day-against-gender-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/society-cuba\/cuba-starts-day-against-gender-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuba starts day against gender violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>November 25: International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Workshops, concerts and TV programs on the issue of non-violence, are part of the actions taking place on the island to support the global campaign launched by the UN Secretary Ban Ki -moon, to combat violence gender .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">These initiatives will take place from 25 November &#8211; International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, until December 10 &#8211; World Day of Human Rights, supported by Cuban institutions, renowned artists and experts in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Both the campaign and other events focus on creating leaders of conscience in two key areas: musicians and athletes, Julius Caesar Pag\u00e9s , coordinator of the African and Ibero-American Network of Masculinities , one of the organizers of the Cuban day, told AP .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThe three large consumption items of men in Cuba are music, sports and sex,&#8221; the author of \u201cMacho, masculine male\u201d, said, who along with a team of collaborators conducted a study of 20,000 male to investigate the main themes of his personal &#8220;agenda\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cMany more people die (in the world) from domestic violence than from war. What we will do these 16 days is displaying results of the entire year, &#8221; Pag\u00e9s told AP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&#8220;Compared with others, Cuba has a lower rate of violence,&#8221; he said, for whom it is important that there is a &#8220;very favorable for the institutional part &#8221; reaction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Official institutions that are supporting the UN campaign include the National Center for Sex Education, the University of Havana and the National Union of Jurists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The campaign called &#8220;Unite\u201d was launched by the Secretary of the United Nations in 2008, but began to take hold in Latin America recently.
