
{"id":187544,"date":"2018-10-08T22:06:09","date_gmt":"2018-10-09T02:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=187544"},"modified":"2018-10-08T22:06:09","modified_gmt":"2018-10-09T02:06:09","slug":"cuba-canada-agreement-on-health-tourism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/economy\/tourism-in-cuba\/cuba-canada-agreement-on-health-tourism\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuba-Canada agreement on health tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cuban and Canadian companies agreed this Tuesday in Havana to start up a program called \u201cFor a happy age,\u201d devoted to medical care on the island for elderly tourists from that North American country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubamagazine.com\/tag\/turismo-de-salud\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">health tourism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> program will cater to groups of senior citizens, autonomous, aged between 75 and 85 in good physical and mental conditions who visit Cuba for two or three months during the winter season, explained the vice president of the state-run entity Cuban Medical Services Marketing Company (CSMC) S.A., Yamila de Armas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After signing the agreement, the executive of CSMC, belonging the island\u2019s Ministry of Public Health, announced that the first group of Canadian visitors will arrive in November to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubamagazine.com\/tag\/varadero\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Varadero<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> beach resort, Cuba\u2019s principal sun and beach tourist destination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The medical-tourist package aims to promote healthy lifestyles and will also include nursing medical care and transportation from and to the airport, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acn.cu\/salud\/37180-firman-cuba-y-canada-contrato-sobre-turismo-de-salud-para-la-tercera-edad\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from the Cuban News Agency (ACN) specified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meanwhile, secretary of the Canadian COGIR travel agency \u2013 specializing in elderly people &#8211; Bruno Desautels commented that his country\u2019s population is aging and people want to travel and there aren\u2019t sufficient projects to attend to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He explained that this program in Cuba will be developed in principle in one of the buildings of the Meli\u00e1 Marina Varadero Hotel and confirmed his agency\u2019s interest in expanding it to other hotel installations in the coming years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Cuban Medical Services Marketing Company offers some 250 health programs for foreign patients traveling to the island, according to official data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Furthermore, it has a network of 14 international clinics, more than 100 doctor\u2019s offices in hotels in tourist destinations, in addition to establishing contractual relations with companies, agencies and tour operators from 41 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Its services also include the management and exploitation of specialized hospitals and clinics in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, with the contribution of professionals specializing in oncology, surgery, diabetic foot treatments and general care of elderly persons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The export of technical and professional services is Cuba\u2019s principal source of income, with an average annual six billion dollars, and it is followed by the tourist sector which contributes some two billion dollars a year and contributes to the GDP with 10 percent. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cuban and Canadian companies agreed this Tuesday in Havana to start up a program called \u201cFor a happy age,\u201d devoted to medical care on the island for elderly tourists from that North American country.
