{"id":191404,"date":"2019-01-06T20:30:42","date_gmt":"2019-01-07T01:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=191404"},"modified":"2019-01-06T20:30:42","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T01:30:42","slug":"more-russian-locomotives-and-a-diesel-railcar-for-cuba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/economy\/foreign-investment-in-cuba\/more-russian-locomotives-and-a-diesel-railcar-for-cuba\/","title":{"rendered":"More Russian locomotives and a diesel railcar for Cuba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A batch of seven locomotives and the first diesel railcar experimental prototype (ultralight train) arrived this Thursday at the port of Havana from Russia, as part of a contract with the Eurasian country to modernize <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/ferrocarril-cubano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba\u2019s railroad <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their arrival has been added to the 43 locomotives out of a total of 75 manufactured by the Russian company Sinara scheduled to arrive gradually to the island until 2021 with the aim of incorporating them to railroad freight transportation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each of the engines has an approximate cost of one million euros.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the case of diesel railcars, they were designed by Russia with the technique developed by the Railways Union of Cuba (UFC), <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.granma.cu\/cuba\/2019-01-03\/impulso-en-el-2019-para-el-ferrocarril-cubano-03-01-2019-14-01-23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to a report <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the daily Granma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UFC Deputy General Manager Rolando Navarro explained that the diesel railcar included in this lot will be tested during a period of 45 days, during which it will be subjected to different technical and transport tests and conditioning to the Cuban railways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of 2018, as part of the UFC program to boost the railroad sector, a lot arrived with 35 equipment for the transport of cement.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"xebQVtCDkS\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/mas-generacion-electrica-y-mejores-trenes-en-cuba-en-2019\/\">M\u00e1s generaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica y mejores trenes en Cuba en 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abM\u00e1s generaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica y mejores trenes en Cuba en 2019\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/mas-generacion-electrica-y-mejores-trenes-en-cuba-en-2019\/embed\/#?secret=PVrIZHLmuN#?secret=xebQVtCDkS\" data-secret=\"xebQVtCDkS\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In December 2016, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/cuba-rusia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba and Russia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> agreed on a roadmap to develop a railway infrastructure project to improve railroad capacity and revive the island\u2019s depressed railroad system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The agreement also includes technical assistance to Cuban specialists, the delivery of spare parts for the maintenance of the equipment and the modernization of a locomotive workshop based in the Cuban capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel\u2019s visit to Russia last November, his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, offered the island &#8220;aid for the construction of transport infrastructure&#8221; and said that both had addressed the renovation of the Cuban railway network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About 1,000 million euros (equivalent to about 1,054 million dollars) will be invested until 2030 in the execution of a modernization project for Cuba\u2019s railways with the collaboration of Russia, according to Cuban media in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent years, with the signing of new economic cooperation agreements, Cuba and Russia have given a boost to their bilateral relations to reestablish the close cooperation they maintained before the disappearance of the Soviet Union (USSR) in 1991.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A batch of seven locomotives and the first diesel railcar experimental prototype (ultralight train) arrived this Thursday at the port of Havana from Russia, as part of a contract with the Eurasian country to modernize Cuba\u2019s railroad \u00a0sector.
