
{"id":192082,"date":"2019-01-21T12:42:21","date_gmt":"2019-01-21T17:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=192082"},"modified":"2019-01-21T12:42:21","modified_gmt":"2019-01-21T17:42:21","slug":"internet-at-home-mode-advances-timidly-reaches-70400-users","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/society-cuba\/internet-at-home-mode-advances-timidly-reaches-70400-users\/","title":{"rendered":"Internet at home mode advances timidly: reaches 70,400 users"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 70,400 Cubans are connected to the Internet today from their homes, a service that has grown timidly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tendencias\/tecnologia\/internet-en-hogares-cubanos-pero-con-calma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">since its inception in 2017<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/cuanto-han-gastado-los-cubanos-por-conectarse-a-internet-movil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">popularity of the recent activation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the mobile data with 3G technology, which already exceeds 1.8 million customers in little more than a month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba, one of the most disconnected nations in the world, offers the Nauta Hogar private service in 115 of the country\u2019s 168 municipalities, according to recent data from the state telecommunications monopoly ETECSA, published last Saturday by the official daily Juventud Rebelde.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">95 percent of Nauta Hogar customers use the 1-megabit connection, the cheapest of the four available packages, ranging from 15 to 70 CUC (Cuban convertible peso equivalent to the dollar), high prices when compared to state wages, whose average does not exceed 30 dollars per month.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"DtaSdthZmM\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/opinion\/columnas\/on-decimas\/ey-viene-nauta-hogar\/\">\u00a1Ey, que viene el Nauta Hogar!<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00ab\u00bfCu\u00e1nto han gastado los cubanos por conectarse a Internet m\u00f3vil?\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/cuanto-han-gastado-los-cubanos-por-conectarse-a-internet-movil\/embed\/#?secret=EkI8WIvoXz#?secret=EZAtfqjb93\" data-secret=\"EZAtfqjb93\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The start of the long-awaited mobile data service on December 6 has been one of the most recent efforts of the administration of Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel, an engineer by profession, who is betting on the use of technologies and has insisted on the usefulness of e-government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We will continue developing the infrastructure and continue expanding our potential for more access to, quality and affordability of the service,&#8221; said D\u00edaz-Canel, who last Friday gave the closing speech at a national meeting on computerization and cybersecurity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Until the advent of mobile data, 60 percent of the 5.9 million Cuban Internet users accessed the network from their study and work centers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Cuba (11.1 million inhabitants) there are more than 5.3 million users of mobile lines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The island is working to provide electronic procedures and expand online payment services in the national territory, where cash transactions still predominate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last December, Cuban Minister of Communications Jorge Luis Perdomo announced before the National Assembly that this year they would begin to test the mobile service with 4G technology in large cities, although he did not specify dates for the official activation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 70,400 Cubans are connected to the Internet today from their homes, a service that has grown timidly since its inception in 2017 compared to the popularity of the recent activation of the mobile data with 3G technology, which already exceeds 1.8 million customers in little more than a month.
