{"id":202257,"date":"2019-07-12T14:48:29","date_gmt":"2019-07-12T18:48:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=202257"},"modified":"2019-07-12T14:48:29","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T18:48:29","slug":"benicio-del-toro-in-gibara-to-receive-honorary-lucia-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/culture\/cinema\/benicio-del-toro-in-gibara-to-receive-honorary-lucia-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Benicio del Toro in Gibara to receive Honorary Luc\u00eda Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro arrived at the Gibara Film Festival to receive the Honorary Luc\u00eda Award from his colleague Ron Perlman, who will arrive to this coastal town in Holgu\u00edn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The accolade was recently awarded to Cubans Daisy Granados and Fernando P\u00e9rez for their remarkable contributions to Cuban cinema and the rigor of their careers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Del Toro, a regular at film festivals in Cuba, is one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood and has alternated his work in mainstream cinema with incursions into independent film.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born in Puerto Rico in 1967, he has placed himself at the service of directors of great caliber like Steven Soderbergh, John Glen and Alejandro Gonz\u00e1lez I\u00f1\u00e1rritu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among his films are remarkable titles such as <em>Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, 21 Grams, The Usual Suspects,\u00a0Traffic<\/em> and <em>Che<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the last edition of the festival, in 2018, Del Toro presented <em>Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas<\/em>, by Terry Gilliam, to remember this classic that was premiered 20 years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_202259\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-202259\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/miedo-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-202259\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/miedo-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"790\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/miedo-1.jpg 790w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/miedo-1-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/miedo-1-768x387.jpg 768w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/miedo-1-360x180.jpg 360w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/miedo-1-750x378.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-202259\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Still from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with Benicio del Toro and Johnny Depp.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the film, based on the book by Hunter Thompson, the Puerto Rican plays the role of Dr. Gonzo while Johnny Depp plays Raoul Duke, alter ego of the U.S. writer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The film is a kind of road movie that takes as point of departure pop culture budgets, counterculture and the hippie movement to propose an analysis of an era that changed the rules of contemporary society.
