{"id":203020,"date":"2019-07-26T14:00:07","date_gmt":"2019-07-26T18:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=203020"},"modified":"2019-07-26T14:00:07","modified_gmt":"2019-07-26T18:00:07","slug":"panama-temporarily-suspends-issuance-of-tourism-cards-to-cubans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/panama-temporarily-suspends-issuance-of-tourism-cards-to-cubans\/","title":{"rendered":"Panama temporarily suspends issuance of tourism cards to Cubans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/panama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panama<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8220;temporarily&#8221; suspended as of Wednesday the issuance of tourism cards to Cubans, created in October 2018, while it reviews the procedures for entering the country under that category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a three-paragraph statement, the National Migration Service (SNM) indicated that &#8220;it refers to the procedure established by Decree Law 3 of February 22, 2008, which authorizes the entry of tourists to Panamanian soil.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In that context, the immigration office reported that &#8220;the issuance of tourism cards to Cuban citizens was temporarily suspended because the immigration authorities are reviewing the procedures to enter Panama as tourists.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We notify you that the issuance of tourism cards to Cuban citizens was temporarily suspended. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\">Les informamos que la emisi\u00f3n de tarjetas de turismo a ciudadanos cubanos fue suspendida temporalmente. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WyFwfIflz8\">pic.twitter.com\/WyFwfIflz8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Migraci\u00f3n Panam\u00e1 (@migracionpanama) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/migracionpanama\/status\/1154140878312792064?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 24, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The tourist visa can be requested at the Panamanian Consulate in Cuba with the established requirements and procedures,&#8221; added the brief official missive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tourist card, with a cost of 20 dollars, could be requested in principle by Cuban citizens who did not have a stamped visa, and allowed a stay of 30 days in Panama. They have previously traveled to Panama or a third country<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*\u00a0 VALID FOR<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">30 days<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At a cost of 20 dollars<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On March 16, the Government of Varela issued <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/panama-exige-visa-estampada-a-cubanos-que-hayan-obtenido-la-tarjeta-turismo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">another decree<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that established that Cubans should have a stamped visa to enter Panama, including those who obtained the tourism card and who entered the Central American country with it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was Executive Decree 122, &#8220;which establishes requirements and the procedure for those nationals of the Republic of Cuba who had previously obtained their respective stamped visa and the granting of stamped visa to those who have used the tourism card.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That provision established that those Cubans who had already obtained a stamped visa will be able to obtain it again if they fill out an application form, pay 50 dollars and present their passport, as well as a copy of the previous visa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cubans who used a tourism card to enter Panama must also have a stamped visa as established in last March\u2019s decree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To obtain it, they must pay 50 dollars and meet requirements, including presenting proof of economic solvency that cannot be less than 500 dollars and which can be demonstrated by credit card or traveler&#8217;s checks, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government of Panama said that it &#8220;considers it necessary&#8221; to establish these requirements and stamped visa procedure for Cuban nationals after making &#8220;the corresponding assessment&#8221; as stated in decree 122.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously Cubans had enthusiastically welcomed the Panamanian decision to grant a card to access the Central American country without a visa, which is one of the most sought-after destinations for them to buy products not available on the island.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government of Panama &#8220;temporarily&#8221; suspended as of Wednesday the issuance of tourism cards to Cubans, created in October 2018, while it reviews the procedures for entering the country under that category.
