The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/etecsa-es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuban Telecommunications Enterprise (ETECSA)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the only one of its kind on the island, released its use to all its prepaid service customers, after months of testing in several territories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Until now, users had to wait for a message notifying them they could use the 4G network. However, after the announcement\u2015made on the company&#8217;s website and social media\u2015, Cubans can now directly request the service by sending a free SMS to the number 2266 with the text LTE.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ETECSA?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ETECSA<\/a> informa a los clientes prepagos de <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/telefon%C3%ADacelular?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#telefon\u00edacelular<\/a> que a partir de hoy 9 de octubre podr\u00e1n solicitar la habilitaci\u00f3n para el acceso a la red 4G\/LTE. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/I3zWka7M6i\">pic.twitter.com\/I3zWka7M6i<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; ETECSA (@ETECSA_Cuba) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ETECSA_Cuba\/status\/1181920026296803328?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 9, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the mobile device meets the technical conditions for the use of the 4G network, they will then receive confirmation from ETECSA that the service has been enabled. The equipment must be compatible with the LTE standard for wireless communications for high-speed data transmission, at 1800 MHz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, they must have a USIM card that, if they do not have it, can be bought at the Commercial Offices of the company for 3.00 CUC (convertible pesos, equivalent to the dollar).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, ETECSA recalls that access to 4G\/LTE &#8220;will only be possible if the client is under its coverage&#8221; and confirms that to date this technology is not yet present throughout the island.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For now, the fourth generation mobile networks are &#8220;in areas of the provinces of Havana, Matanzas, Mayabeque, Artemisa, Camag\u00fcey, Ciego de \u00c1vila, Holgu\u00edn, Granma, Las Tunas, Guant\u00e1namo and Santiago de Cuba,&#8221; according to the state-run company, which affirms that &#8220;in the coming months the rest of the territories will be incorporated.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"v5fXeLP1b2\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/la-4g-en-cuba-pasito-a-pasito\/\">La 4G en Cuba, pasito a pasito<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abLa 4G en Cuba, pasito a pasito\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/la-4g-en-cuba-pasito-a-pasito\/embed\/#?secret=4OAj8k26Vg#?secret=v5fXeLP1b2\" data-secret=\"v5fXeLP1b2\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carlos Blanco, an ETECSA specialist, had said some days ago that the state entity &#8220;is working to develop the 4G in the coming years&#8221; and that the new technology &#8220;will be extended once the analog blackout is reached,&#8221; which will take place gradually and whose end, initially scheduled for 2021, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/apagon-analogico-en-cuba-cuando-existan-todas-la-condiciones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was extended<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> two more years. This is due, according to Blanco, because the necessary signal for 4G is now being used by transmitters that are dependent on the analog signal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Once that signal goes out, frequencies would be released and, therefore, there would be a better broadband connection,&#8221; he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After years without massive access <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/internet-en-cuba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the Internet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Cuban authorities are promoting greater connectivity on the island as part of the government strategy of &#8220;computerization of society.&#8221; As part of it, ETECSA began offering the Nauta Hogar service, which allows home access to the Internet, and connection through mobile data using mainly 3G technology, which is used by thousands of Cubans despite its high prices and still frequent problems.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since Wednesday, in theory, 4G is available to all Cubans.
