{"id":209964,"date":"2019-11-30T18:28:42","date_gmt":"2019-11-30T23:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=209964"},"modified":"2019-11-30T18:28:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-30T23:28:42","slug":"cubans-will-be-able-to-generate-their-own-electricity-and-sell-to-the-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cubans-will-be-able-to-generate-their-own-electricity-and-sell-to-the-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Cubans will be able to generate their own electricity and sell to the government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cubans will be able to purchase equipment that uses <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/energia-renovable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">renewable energy sources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, produce electricity for self-consumption, and sell their surplus to the island\u2019s National Electric System, according to Decree-Law 345, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gacetaoficial.gob.cu\/pdf\/GOC-2019-O95.pdf?fbclid=IwAR2piigkDFrPpIWSQBlECx44tOb40I2RxTulzBrAUrcGyGkejKOq5pTRCiw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this Thursday in the <em>Gaceta Oficial<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The regulations include an instruction from the Central Bank of Cuba to its commercial entities to grant credits to people who wish to buy solar heaters and photovoltaic solar systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also stipulates that the credits will be granted in Cuban pesos (CUP) up to 100% of the value of the equipment, and their repayment terms will respond to the risk analysis carried out by the bank based on the applicant&#8217;s payment capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The retail sales of the equipment and spare parts will be carried out in a network of selected establishments, including currency collection stores, as provided by the Ministry of Domestic Trade. The regulations set a one-year commercial warranty for solar heaters and ten years for photovoltaic systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Installation and assembly will be carried out by state entities.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"Kt72ijJtbV\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/instalara-el-pnud-modulos-solares-en-centro-de-cuba\/\">Instalar\u00e1 el PNUD m\u00f3dulos solares en centro de Cuba<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abInstalar\u00e1 el PNUD m\u00f3dulos solares en centro de Cuba\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/instalara-el-pnud-modulos-solares-en-centro-de-cuba\/embed\/#?secret=ttL767wjsX#?secret=Kt72ijJtbV\" data-secret=\"Kt72ijJtbV\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Decree-Law establishes the regulations for the development of renewable sources and the efficient use of energy, with the objective of increasing the participation of these sources in the Cuban energy generation matrix and the progressive replacement of fossil fuels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the new legal norm, which was approved by the Council of State and signed by former President Ra\u00fal Castro in March 2017\u2015and that is only now published in the <em>Gaceta Oficial<\/em>\u2015, the Cuban government is committed to \u201cdiversifying the structure of power generation,\u201d and \u201cincreasing efficiency and energy savings.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resolution 123, of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, provides that the Electric Union (UNE) has the obligation to buy all the electric energy that is delivered to the National Electric System by independent producers.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"A3hCqgtetY\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/cuba-construira-central-bioelectrica-parque-eolico-financiacion-india\/\">Cuba construir\u00e1 central bioel\u00e9ctrica y parque e\u00f3lico con financiaci\u00f3n india<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abCuba construir\u00e1 central bioel\u00e9ctrica y parque e\u00f3lico con financiaci\u00f3n india\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/cuba-construira-central-bioelectrica-parque-eolico-financiacion-india\/embed\/#?secret=wdKdppF4or#?secret=A3hCqgtetY\" data-secret=\"A3hCqgtetY\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to establish energy prices, which should incentivize independent production, the cost of avoiding fossil fuel generation, and the setting of differentiated tariffs in the schedules of maximum demand of the National Electric System will be taken into account, among other elements, the regulations indicate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, maximum power limits will not be established for photovoltaic systems installed in the residential sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba aims to increase the contribution of renewable energy sources in power generation to no less than 24% of the total in 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decree-Law 345\u2019s priorities include \u201cencouraging investment and research in that sector,\u201d in addition to \u201cdeveloping the production of equipment, parts and spare parts by the national industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cubans will be able to purchase equipment that uses renewable energy sources, produce electricity for self-consumption, and sell their surplus to the island\u2019s National Electric System, according to Decree-Law 345, published this Thursday in the Gaceta Oficial.
