{"id":210477,"date":"2019-12-08T18:56:47","date_gmt":"2019-12-08T23:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=210477"},"modified":"2019-12-08T18:56:47","modified_gmt":"2019-12-08T23:56:47","slug":"diaz-canel-receives-unesco-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/diaz-canel-receives-unesco-director\/","title":{"rendered":"D\u00edaz-Canel receives UNESCO director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel discussed relations between both parties and agreed to strengthen cooperation during a meeting in Havana this Friday, the state media reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both leaders debated \u201con the state of the links between UNESCO and Cuba and ratified the will to continue working for their strengthening,\u201d said the state news agency <em>ACN<\/em>, which covered the meeting to which the foreign press did not have access.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Azoulay and D\u00edaz-Canel also highlighted \u201cthe priority given by both parties to the development of education, culture and science and the use of new technologies,\u201d in addition to addressing \u201cother issues related to the mandate\u201d of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The director of UNESCO is on an official visit to Havana, where on Thursday she met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez to discuss bilateral cooperation on issues such as the struggle against the climate crisis and heritage conservation.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"KOOavsdqp4\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/la-directora-de-la-unesco-en-cuba-aborda-crisis-climatica-y-conservacion-patrimonial\/\">La directora de la Unesco en Cuba aborda crisis clim\u00e1tica y conservaci\u00f3n patrimonial<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abLa directora de la Unesco en Cuba aborda crisis clim\u00e1tica y conservaci\u00f3n patrimonial\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/la-directora-de-la-unesco-en-cuba-aborda-crisis-climatica-y-conservacion-patrimonial\/embed\/#?secret=QHqn50FDuC#?secret=KOOavsdqp4\" data-secret=\"KOOavsdqp4\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Azoulay also met with Havana Historian Eusebio Leal, a highly respected authority for his decisive contribution to the restoration of the capital\u2019s historic center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The director of UNESCO toured several sites of interest in that area and visited the Santa Clara School, venue of the Caribbean-European Union-UNESCO Project, which will host a heritage restoration training center for specialists in the Caribbean region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She also participated in the closing session of the 2nd International School of Sciences of UNESCO, where representatives from 19 Caribbean countries addressed issues related to climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba joined UNESCO in 1947.
