<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ViFrB0zzuQ\">pic.twitter.com\/ViFrB0zzuQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez (@DiazCanelB) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DiazCanelB\/status\/1204361053531975680?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 10, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, in another tweet he said that \u201chuman rights in Cuba enshrine the full dignity of man,\u201d and added the link to an article with that title <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.granma.cu\/cuba\/2019-12-10\/los-derechos-humanos-en-cuba-consagran-la-dignidad-plena-del-hombre-10-12-2019-03-12-35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this Tuesday in the official daily <em>Granma<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That text, signed by Enrique Moreno, affirms that \u201cCuba has repeatedly ratified its invariable commitment to the promotion and protection of all human rights for all persons, with its interdependent and indivisible character\u201d and that \u201cfor this purpose, it advances sovereignly in the process of strengthening its legal and institutional framework.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreno asserts that \u201cwhile other international actors promote wars of prey, coups d\u2019\u00e9tat and the politicized and selective treatment of human rights against governments that do not meet their hegemonic interests,\u201d Cuba \u201chas ratified 44 of the 61 international instruments in this matter\u2015which represents 72.13% of the total\u2015, placing it within the group of UN member states with the highest number of ratifications of this type.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The text lists these international agreements signed by the Cuban government\u2015without referring to those not signed\u2015and quotes the island\u2019s new Magna Carta, which in its article 41 says that \u201cthe Cuban State recognizes and guarantees the enjoyment and inalienable, imprescriptible, indivisible, universal and interdependent exercise of human rights for persons, according to the principles of progressivity, equality and non-discrimination.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"OIWGxokUs1\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/opinion\/columns\/our-life\/dignity-is-not-decided-by-plebiscite\/\">Dignity is not decided by plebiscite<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Dignity is not decided by plebiscite&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/opinion\/columns\/our-life\/dignity-is-not-decided-by-plebiscite\/embed\/#?secret=tJwtQRwMqj#?secret=OIWGxokUs1\" data-secret=\"OIWGxokUs1\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, other media <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acn.cu\/cuba\/52945-ratifica-cuba-proteccion-de-los-derechos-humanos-pese-al-bloqueo-de-ee-uu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cite<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a statement from the Cuban Foreign Ministry that ponders the island\u2019s health and education systems, of universal and free coverage, as well as vaccination campaigns and citizen participation in the constitutional reform process, despite the embargo\/blockade, which it describes as \u201cthe main obstacle to Cuba\u2019s development.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite this, the issue of human rights has been a matter of controversy between Havana and Washington\u2015which on more than one occasion has criticized the situation of Cuba in this regard\u2015and other governments and international organizations, particularly around issues such as citizen participation, political opposition and freedom of association, speech and press.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In some cases, as with the European Union (EU), the Cuban government has recognized \u201cdifferences in focus\u201d on the subject, but has shown its willingness to hold a \u201crespectful\u201d dialogue. It is precisely with the EU that it has held discussions in this regard, as part of the meetings that take place as part of the Agreement on Political Dialogue and Cooperation between both parties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Issues such as the imprisonment of Cuban government opponents, not letting independent activists and journalists travel, and the role of medical missions outside the island have been the subject of recent controversies between Havana and other governments such as those in the United States and Brazil, which have evidenced differing
