{"id":212509,"date":"2020-01-18T17:52:49","date_gmt":"2020-01-18T22:52:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=212509"},"modified":"2020-01-18T18:31:55","modified_gmt":"2020-01-18T23:31:55","slug":"more-than-57000-cubans-have-requested-repatriation-since","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/more-than-57000-cubans-have-requested-repatriation-since\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 57,000 Cubans have requested repatriation since 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/emigracion-cubana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuban emigrants<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who have requested their repatriation to the island has increased \u201cannually and steadily\u201d in the last seven years, according to Ernesto Sober\u00f3n, general director of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad (DACCRE) of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A total of 57,746 applications have been presented from January 2013 to date, of which 36,471 are from the United States, explained Sober\u00f3n in an interview with the daily <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.juventudrebelde.cu\/internacionales\/2020-01-14\/el-proceso-de-normalizacion-con-la-emigracion-es-continuo-irreversible-y-permanente?fbclid=IwAR2OtEiu6XAA1DaFt_y9yllX7QXcu-TVN7q3w0IKDFfL1eYTMJmAt-497p4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Juventud Rebelde<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The general director of DACCRE also said that the Foreign Ministry has identified 1,485,618 Cubans\u2015not counting their descendants\u2015residing in at least 124 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuban-government-announces-4th-the-nation-and-emigration-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nation and the Emigration Conference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, convened by Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel last December, Sober\u00f3n explained that, of that total of Cuban emigrants, 1,195,607 are registered in the island\u2019s consulates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe majority of Cubans living abroad maintain a fluid and stable relationship with their embassies and consulates,\u201d said the official, who said there are 166 associations of emigrants from the island in 79 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, he specified that since the updating of the Cuban immigration policy in 2013 and until June 2019, 4,402,577 Cubans have traveled abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSimilarly, there is a sustained increase in the entry of Cubans residing abroad, mainly from the United States.
