{"id":212994,"date":"2020-01-29T07:29:06","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T12:29:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=212994"},"modified":"2020-01-29T07:29:06","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T12:29:06","slug":"cuba-says-it-has-no-cases-of-coronavirus-and-adopts-prevention-measures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuba-says-it-has-no-cases-of-coronavirus-and-adopts-prevention-measures\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuba says it has no cases of coronavirus and adopts prevention measures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cuban government announced this Monday that no case of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/mundo\/que-se-sabe-sobre-el-nuevo-coronavirus-chino\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new Chinese coronavirus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been registered in the country, although the authorities have adopted sanitary control measures at the borders and surveillance of incoming travelers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn our country no case has been reported and there are no suspicions and no people under any surveillance,\u201d said the National Director of Epidemiology of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Francisco Dur\u00e1n, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acn.cu\/salud\/60603-refuerza-cuba-sistema-de-vigilancia-epidemiologica-ante-riesgo-del-coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cited<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by state media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The specialist explained that on the island the control of travelers is being intensified at ports and airports, entry points of the new coronavirus\u2015which causes pneumonia\u2015originating in the Chinese city of Wuhan, from where it has spread to other areas of the Asian nation and other countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also indicated that \u201cadequate vigilance\u201d is maintained for all persons from their arrival in Cuba, which in principle includes at first a general declaration of health of the vessel, and another of each traveler.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"WtUOOKRghv\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/ciencia\/salud-en-cuba\/presidente-de-china-situacion-grave-por-el-coronavirus\/\">Presidente de China: situaci\u00f3n grave por el coronavirus<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abPresidente de China: situaci\u00f3n grave por el coronavirus\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/ciencia\/salud-en-cuba\/presidente-de-china-situacion-grave-por-el-coronavirus\/embed\/#?secret=yQ0EElKwDw#?secret=WtUOOKRghv\" data-secret=\"WtUOOKRghv\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About 80 deaths have been registered in China to date due to the disease\u2015which is transmitted from person to person\u2015and more than 2,700 persons infected with the lethal coronavirus, that has been provisionally called \u201c2019-nCoV\u201d by the World Health Organization (WHO), have been diagnosed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cuban MINSAP official said that \u201cwe must be alert,\u201d although so far the WHO has not declared this disease as a global health emergency. He also said that, in the face of a possible proliferation of the disease, Cuba has developed a plan to address it that includes the participation of all state agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outside of China, so far 8 cases have been reported infected in Thailand (at least two of them cured), 5 in the United States and 4 in each of the following countries: Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, France and Japan. Three have also been detected in South Korea, two in Vietnam, one in Nepal and one in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In South America four possible cases have been reported in Peru and another in Ecuador of a Chinese citizen, while Brazil has already ruled out six suspicious cases after an analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The so-called Wuhan pneumonia recalls the crisis caused almost two decades ago by the Serious Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus, genetically similar to this new coronavirus and that left more than 600 dead in China.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The symptoms of coronavirus 2019-nCoV are in many cases similar to those of a cold, but they can be accompanied by fever and fatigue, dry
