Javier Pe\u00f1a, the professor of \u201cJiu-jitsu against Rape,\u201d shows them on the cell phone to those who still doubt that a woman can overpower an attacker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two different girls keep two aggressors immobilized on the floor, struggling to get away without achieving it. The two practice Brazilian jiu-jitsu or BJJ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea of \u200b\u200bteaching techniques and training women with an \u201ceffective guide\u201d to stop a possible sexual assault was in Pe\u00f1a&#8217;s mind for months. According to him, it is not about neutralizing the aggressor, but about gaining time and getting out of dangers way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt&#8217;s about empowerment, that at any given time you can defend yourself, protect yourself from an extreme situation. It is not ideal to reach it, but if you are there, what do you do? Like most buildings in the city, its years of glory can still be seen among the traces of time. Inside, the story is another.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis is my grandmother&#8217;s house, my mother, who is an art curator, and I lived here. Films, plastic exhibitions and theatrical writing experiences have also been presented at the house on San L\u00e1zaro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The workshop \u201cJiu-jitsu against Rape\u201d is the first thing Salgado and Molina organize that\u2019s not directly related to art. \u201cWe do this because we are women, because I know women who have been in situations of sexual harassment and we are interested in supporting women&#8217;s empowerment initiatives,\u201d says Fabiana Salgado.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are still not sure if they will repeat, but at Arthaus they are happy with the reception of this first edition, shown in the number of people who are interested, an indication that \u201csomething is moving.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPerhaps there isn\u2019t a general state of fear in the street, but I do believe there is evidence that things are happening on the street. The arrival of the Internet on cell phones has driven the solidification of an activism that still has a long way to go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compared to other Latin American nations that have much more chilling histories of violence, Cuba is a safe country.
