This is how the empire acts, with total arrogance and contempt, but no one will stop us,\u201d the Cuban president wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\">Western Union suspende env\u00edos de remesas  a la Isla, excepto desde EE.UU. As\u00ed act\u00faa el imperio, con total prepotencia y desprecio, pero a nosotros no nos para nadie. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SomosCuba?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SomosCuba<\/a>  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1voUTSEYD2\">https:\/\/t.co\/1voUTSEYD2<\/a> Via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Granma_Digital?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Granma_Digital<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez (@DiazCanelB) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DiazCanelB\/status\/1233363817750507525?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 28, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>D\u00edaz-Canel\u2019s reaction comes a day after Western Union announced that as of this week, remittances can no longer be sent to Cuba from third countries, leaving only the possibility of doing so from the <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/estados-unidos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">United States<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The company justified its decision because of the difficulties to carry out this type of operations, in an apparent reference to the embargo that Washington imposes on Havana, strengthened by Trump with new sanctions that especially the last year have generated a strong impact on the Cuban economy.<\/p>\n<p>Among them, last September the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced the prohibition of so-called \u201cU-turn\u201d transactions, preventing banking institutions under U.S. jurisdiction from processing certain transfers of funds to Cuba even if they originate and end outside the United States.
