As part of the measures to face a possible Covid-19 outbreak in Cuba, masks, a means of protection aimed at preventing the spread of the disease in high-risk environments, have already begun to be made on the island.<\/p>\n
The Carlos Sim\u00f3n factory, in the municipality of Cabaigu\u00e1n \u2013in the province of Sancti Sp\u00edritus\u2013, is one of the textile entities that produces these pieces made of fabric, destined for health institutions. The Sancti Sp\u00edritus factory will produce in the first stage about 20,000 masks, a figure that could be increased \u201cas the process goes along,\u201d according to its director, Gerson Cerquera.<\/p>\n
The official said that the operators are working overtime on that assignment and explained that the design of these pieces \u201cis totally different from other masks made for surgical procedures,\u201d according to statements cited<\/a> by the newspaper Juventud Rebelde<\/em>.<\/p>\n The publication reports that \u201cto take on this priority task,\u201d the Carlos Sim\u00f3n factory interrupted the making of school uniforms for junior high education that it was carrying out \u201cin order to speed up production.\u201d<\/p>\n The masks made in the Cabaigu\u00e1n factory \u201chave as a special feature three layers of fabric that help protect against respiratory infections existing in the environment,\u201d according to Liliana Figueroa Ferrer, head of brigade at the factory, who said that they have \u201cthe necessary raw material\u201d for their production: more than 5,000 meters of fabric, \u201cvery useful for hospital purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n No hay casos de coronavirus en Cuba<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
