In fact, the government announced a series of measures, but will make them known this evening on the Mesa Redonda television program.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the health authorities have registered 16 cases\u2015all imported.<\/p>\n<p>Five new positive cases were confirmed yesterday: a 69-year-old French citizen, held in the Villa Colibr\u00ed Isolation Center in Santiago de Cuba, where a 37-year-old Cuban citizen, who came from Rome, is also located.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a 70-year-old Italian citizen from Lombardy has been held at the Villa El Cocal Isolation Center in Holgu\u00edn and a 34-year-old Spanish citizen from Madrid remains in the IPK Institute of Tropical Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>An 81-year-old Canadian, who arrived from Montreal, Canada, is also in the IPK.<\/p>\n<p>The Cuban government has also adopted a series of measures to prevent and deal with the coronavirus, some of them in the island&#8217;s ports and air terminals, but for the moment it is keeping its borders open under the criterion that it is safe to continue receiving tourists because an epidemiological monitoring and control of all arriving travelers is carried out.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) authorities said this Thursday that the introduction of new control measures for the arrival of people from endangered areas is being analyzed, due to the high number of infections of the coronavirus that causes the disease known as COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>In this sense, although they did not specify details of the new provisions that will come into force, they stated that the first task is to strengthen border international control and of travelers once they are inside the island.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TOURISM, A VITAL SOURCE OF INCOME<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tourism is Cuba\u2019s second source of income after the sale of professional services abroad, which contributes 10% to the gross domestic product (GDP) and generates approximately half a million jobs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_215835\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-215835\" style=\"width: 899px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/turismo-en-cuba-efe.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-215835\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/turismo-en-cuba-efe.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"899\" height=\"599\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/turismo-en-cuba-efe.jpg 899w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/turismo-en-cuba-efe-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/turismo-en-cuba-efe-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/turismo-en-cuba-efe-750x500.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 899px) 100vw, 899px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-215835\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A couple of tourists on the beach next to the Memories Trinidad del Mar Hotel, in the city of Trinidad, in Sancti Sp\u00edritus.
