{"id":217566,"date":"2020-04-16T18:58:57","date_gmt":"2020-04-16T22:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=217566"},"modified":"2020-04-16T18:58:57","modified_gmt":"2020-04-16T22:58:57","slug":"covid-19-outbreak-reported-in-santa-clara-nursing-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/covid-19-outbreak-reported-in-santa-clara-nursing-home\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 outbreak reported in Santa Clara nursing home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported this Thursday an outbreak of COVID-19 in a nursing home in the city of <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/santa-clara\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Santa Clara<\/a>, in the center of the island.<\/p>\n<p>According to the daily report issued by MINSAP on the situation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coronavirus<\/a> pandemic, of the 19 new cases confirmed at the close of Wednesday in the province of Villa Clara, \u201c17 belong to an outbreak in the Nursing Home No. 3 of Santa Clara.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The note does not specify which of the 18 positive cases registered in that city\u2015the other case is from the Villa Clara municipality of Placetas, an 85-year-old woman whose source of infection is under investigation\u2015are the 17 linked to that outbreak, nor does it specify in each case if they are elderly who are interned, semi-interned, workers or relatives.<\/p>\n<p>However, from the data provided about the new patients of COVID-19 in Santa Clara, it can be verified that not all those infected in the nursing home are over 65 years of age.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"ThLBtld3TY\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/coronavirus-in-cuba-862-cases-27-deaths\/\">Coronavirus in Cuba: 862 cases, 27 deaths<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Coronavirus in Cuba: 862 cases, 27 deaths&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/coronavirus-in-cuba-862-cases-27-deaths\/embed\/#?secret=qoYUNwARzv#?secret=ThLBtld3TY\" data-secret=\"ThLBtld3TY\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In total, nine people reported as positive in the Villa Clara capital\u2015three men and six women\u2015belonged to that age group, of which six are over 80 years old, two are over 75 years old and one is 68 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The rest range from 20 to 50 years, so they could well be nursing home workers or their and the elderly\u2019s relatives.<\/p>\n<p>In all cases, the report affirmed that they are contacts of a confirmed case, although it does not specify when or provide data on that or those patients who may have infected the rest of the people related to this transmission event.<\/p>\n<p>Nor does it explain whether they have symptoms of the disease or how many more people are being investigated and are isolated because of this.<\/p>\n<p>It is the first time, since COVID-19 cases began to be registered on the island, that the MINSAP reports an outbreak in a nursing home, although it has done so in several communities in the country and also in hospitals.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"PBd4iWBe9G\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/opinion\/columnas\/de-otro-costal\/no-es-un-mundo-para-viejos\/\">\u00bfNo es un mundo para viejos?<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
