A new donation from China<\/a> of medical supplies to combat COVID-19 arrived in Cuba, according to reports from the island\u2019s press.<\/p>\n

The Cuban ambassador to the Asian nation, Carlos Miguel Pereira, confirmed<\/a> to Prensa Latina<\/em> news agency that \u201cthis is the first flight chartered by Havana to transport essential supplies for the tasks of prevention, control and treatment\u201d of the disease.<\/p>\n

The donation, which arrived by plane this Friday, includes items such as masks, protective suits, diagnostic kits and also sample transport devices, which \u201care key from the point of view of clinical management,\u201d says the report.<\/p>\n

The shipment traveled to Cuba from the Shanghai municipality \u201cwith all the required logistics, including the cold store to guarantee its arrival in Cuba in optimal conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The diplomat explained that the operation seeks to contribute to the securing of necessary materials in Cuban hospitals to care for and save the lives of COVID-19 patients, \u201cdespite the difficulties derived from the blockade\u201d of the United States.<\/p>\n

In addition, he thanked \u201cthe facilities granted by China (to Cuba) amid the high international demand for access to medical supplies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cuban ambassador showed images of the donation already on the plane before its departure for the island.<\/p>\n

Days ago, the Cuban embassy had confirmed that more than 40 Chinese entities had prepared donations of medical items for the island.<\/p>\n

Some have already arrived in Cuba, while others are still waiting \u201cfor the spaces necessary for air shipments,\u201d the agency pointed out.<\/p>\n

Donors include several ministries, government and Communist Party agencies, Henan Foreign Office, as well as the firms SKN, Xiamen Carisol, Yutong, Geely, Beijing Rosa, BPL, Changheber, Shanghai Suncuba, and Beya Time, among others.<\/p>\n
