{"id":222946,"date":"2020-06-15T14:38:45","date_gmt":"2020-06-15T18:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=222946"},"modified":"2020-06-15T14:39:21","modified_gmt":"2020-06-15T18:39:21","slug":"second-phase-of-population-study-to-detect-coronavirus-cases-begins-in-havana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/second-phase-of-population-study-to-detect-coronavirus-cases-begins-in-havana\/","title":{"rendered":"Second phase of population study to detect coronavirus cases begins in Havana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/contribute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>Help us keep OnCuba alive here<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second phase of an ongoing population study in Cuba to detect possible contagions with the <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\">coronavirus<\/a> began this Monday in Havana, the island\u2019s media reported.<\/p>\n<p>During this phase, the study on the prevalence and incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection will consider 280 families from the capital\u2019s fifteen municipalities.<\/p>\n<p>Its objectives \u201cinclude estimating the immune response to accumulated incidents according to the main demographic characteristics, the degree to which asymptomatic individuals with infections prevail in the country, and identifying the most important risks of contracting the disease,\u201d <em>Tribuna de La Habana<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tribuna.cu\/capitalinas\/2020-06-13\/inicia-este-lunes-segunda-etapa-del-estudio-poblacional-para-enfrentar-la-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explained<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nilda Roca, Provincial Deputy Director of Health, told the publication that 971 people will participate in this phase, \u201cthe same population universe as the previous stage, belonging to 56 family doctor offices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the official, in the first phase \u201cPCR tests were done using a nasopharyngeal swab, but at this stage IGG tests will be made from blood samples, then subjected to examination in laboratories with the Ultra Micro Analytical System (SUMA).\u201d This will allow examining the tests in the municipalities themselves and in the Provincial Hygiene Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough this test it will be possible to confirm that we are in the presence or not of a patient with a viral disease,\u201d said Dr. Roca, who called on the population involved to \u201cactively participate and maintain the necessary cooperation before the arrival of the screening team,\u201d according to <em>Tribuna<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"q6hhp7jH5x\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/cuba-comenzara-estudios-poblacionales-para-detectar-posibles-contagios-con-la-covid-19\/\">Cuba comenzar\u00e1 estudios poblacionales para detectar posibles contagios con la Covid-19<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abCuba comenzar\u00e1 estudios poblacionales para detectar posibles contagios con la Covid-19\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/cuba-comenzara-estudios-poblacionales-para-detectar-posibles-contagios-con-la-covid-19\/embed\/#?secret=PMnPwT6oLc#?secret=q6hhp7jH5x\" data-secret=\"q6hhp7jH5x\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The population study to detect possible cases of coronavirus began on May 12 and is expected to conclude on July 24, after conducting three phases of testing.<\/p>\n<p>It is being carried out in localities throughout the island and as part of it, until June 11, 3,850 PCR tests had been carried out on representative populations. As a result of these tests, only four SARS-CoV-2 positive cases were detected, two of them in municipalities that had no previously confirmed cases: Mantua, in Pinar del R\u00edo, and Manat\u00ed, in Las Tunas, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acn.cu\/salud\/66020-en-cuba-existe-un-estudio-disenado-para-detectar-casos-silenciosos-de-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according <\/a>to Dr. Francisco Dur\u00e1n, director of epidemiology of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>Cuba reported 10 new <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coronavirus<\/a> infections this Sunday, nine of them in Havana, and did not register deaths from COVID-19 for the third consecutive day.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the number of positive cases detected on the island amounted to 2,248, of which 1,196 are from the Cuban capital, while the deaths remain at 84.
