{"id":223505,"date":"2020-06-26T14:26:39","date_gmt":"2020-06-26T18:26:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=223505"},"modified":"2020-06-26T14:27:14","modified_gmt":"2020-06-26T18:27:14","slug":"a-doctor-and-a-nurse-from-the-cuban-brigade-in-andorra-disappear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/a-doctor-and-a-nurse-from-the-cuban-brigade-in-andorra-disappear\/","title":{"rendered":"A doctor and a nurse from the Cuban brigade in Andorra disappear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/contribute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Help us keep OnCuba alive<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two members of the Cuban health delegation who arrived in Andorra to reinforce the health teams during the <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19<\/a> pandemic have been missing since Saturday and it is not ruled out that they have crossed the border into Spain.<\/p>\n<p>They are a doctor and a nurse from the island\u2019s brigade, belonging to the Henry Reeve Contingent\u2015specialized in confronting epidemics and disaster situations\u2015, who traveled in March to support the Andorran Healthcare Service and who, according to government sources cited by the <em>Ag\u00e8ncia de Not\u00edcies Andorrana (ANA)<\/em> news agency, \u201chave not returned to the hotel\u201d where they were staying in Escaldes-Engordany.<\/p>\n<p>For now, according to the <em>ANA<\/em>, there is no record of any complaint being filed about this disappearance, nor is their location known, although it is not ruled out that they may have crossed the border of the Runer River in the direction of Spain.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <em>Diari de Andorra<\/em>, who has advanced the possible flight of both health workers and a probable request for political asylum in Spain, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diariandorra.ad\/noticies\/nacional\/2020\/06\/25\/desercio_metge_una_infermera_cubans_162899_1125.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one of the disappeared<\/a> is the military doctor and anesthetist Dariel Romero, from Havana.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"ca\" dir=\"ltr\">El metge cub\u00e0 fugit \u00e9s un militar <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernAndorra?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GovernAndorra<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/saasandorra?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@saasandorra<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/coronavirus?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#coronavirus<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/covid19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#covid19<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4bagnv2s1Q\">https:\/\/t.co\/4bagnv2s1Q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Diari d&#39;Andorra (@diariandorra) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/diariandorra\/status\/1276104696772661248?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 25, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The publication affirms that the missing doctor is considered \u201cone of the chiefs of the mission that went to the Principality,\u201d and that the Cuban Consul General in Barcelona, \u200b\u200bAlain Gonz\u00e1lez, in charge of supervising the work of the brigade, traveled to Andorra after the departure of the two health workers.<\/p>\n<p>The daily itself reports that the Andorran head of government, Xavier Espot, said in an interview that what happened with the two Cuban health workers \u201cis an anecdote\u201d and that his Executive does not know if they have left the country or not, but that in any case \u201cit should not involve any diplomatic conflict.\u201d Espot assured that the disappeared professionals \u201cwill not be persecuted\u201d because they had only gone there to work and they have not committed a crime.<\/p>\n<p>For now, neither the authorities nor the island\u2019s state media, which have systematically followed the work of the Cuban health workers in the European principality, have made a public reference to the case.<\/p>\n<p>The Cuban health delegation, made up of 39 professionals, arrived in Andorra in March at the time of the highest incidence of coronavirus in this country and, of this contingent, there were still 23 who were supposed to return at the end of this month.<\/p>\n<p><em>EFE\/OnCuba<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/contribute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Help us keep OnCuba alive<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Help us keep OnCuba alive Two members of the Cuban health delegation who arrived in Andorra to reinforce the health teams during the COVID-19 pandemic have been missing since Saturday and it is not ruled out that they have crossed the border into Spain.
