To encourage this option, we will give a 10% discount,\u201d said the minister, who said that the stores dedicated to international tourism will also sell their products in foreign currencies, \u201calways in accordance with the country\u2019s provisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"0I0F1x2aky\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/steps-and-keys-for-reopening-cuban-tourism\/\">Steps and keys for reopening Cuban tourism<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Steps and keys for reopening Cuban tourism&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/steps-and-keys-for-reopening-cuban-tourism\/embed\/#?secret=PQLHrFrrqA#?secret=0I0F1x2aky\" data-secret=\"0I0F1x2aky\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As for the camping modality, so far there are more than 42,000 vacationers who have visited the open bases throughout the country, and \u201cthe objective is to keep the 140,000 points of sale open and add new bases\u201d of those lower-cost facilities exclusively for Cubans, Garc\u00eda said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the minister emphasized promoting various options to attract foreign visitors to Cuba, such as cultural tourism and events.<\/p>\n<p>Juan Carlos Garc\u00eda confirmed that the main goal of his ministry is to promote the island as a tourist destination for peace, health and safety, in the midst of a complex context caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, from which the island aspires to \u201crecover ASAP.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"2PKyQsnZzg\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/economia\/turismo\/melia-confia-en-recuperacion-del-turismo-en-cuba\/\">Meli\u00e1 conf\u00eda en recuperaci\u00f3n del turismo en Cuba<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abMeli\u00e1 conf\u00eda en recuperaci\u00f3n del turismo en Cuba\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/economia\/turismo\/melia-confia-en-recuperacion-del-turismo-en-cuba\/embed\/#?secret=GyZq6hTRpJ#?secret=2PKyQsnZzg\" data-secret=\"2PKyQsnZzg\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The minister of tourism explained that strict security measures will be applied to foreign visitors, which include carrying out PCR tests upon arrival to the island, and said that both hotels and airports have certifications according to established protocols.<\/p>\n<p>Garc\u00eda confirmed that, even though the tourist facilities of several Cuban keys are already open to international tourists, their arrival has been delayed due to the measures taken by the different nations, travel agencies and insurance companies in the face of the pandemic, which has made for a delay in the expected flights from important markets for Cuba, such as Canada.<\/p>\n<p>However, he said that requests had been received from <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/economia\/turismo\/asociacion-de-turoperadores-de-rusia-promueve-el-destino-cuba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russia<\/a>\u2015an expanding market on the island\u2015to fly to the keys with a weekly frequency for the second half of August.<\/p>\n<p>After an <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/turismo-a-cuba-cae-mas-de-un-9-en-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unfortunate 2019<\/a>, in which the Cuban tourism industry suffered a 9.25% drop due to events such as the prohibition of cruises and the restriction of flights to Cuba by the U.S. government, the Ministry of Tourism had opted for a discreet growth of its operations in 2020, when it aspired to reach 4.5 million tourists.
