{"id":227220,"date":"2020-09-08T12:11:19","date_gmt":"2020-09-08T16:11:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=227220"},"modified":"2020-09-08T12:11:19","modified_gmt":"2020-09-08T16:11:19","slug":"international-organizations-recognize-cubas-work-against-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/international-organizations-recognize-cubas-work-against-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"International organizations recognize Cuba\u2019s work against COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Pan American and World Health organizations (PAHO\/WHO), through their representative in Cuba, recognized the island\u2019s work in confronting the <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19<\/a> pandemic, Cuban media reported.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jos\u00e9 Moya, who represents both international organizations in Havana, described the work carried out in Cuba to contain and prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus as \u201ceffective,\u201d despite the outbreak experienced in the country in recent weeks, the <em>Agencia Cubana de Noticias (ACN)<\/em> news agency <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acn.cu\/mundo\/69730-califican-de-efectivo-el-enfrentamiento-de-cuba-a-la-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">highlighted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the specialist\u2019s opinion, the success of Cuba\u2019s strategy against COVID-19 lies in the fact that \u201cit has been based on the strengths of its national health system, such as the national primary healthcare network,\u201d which, he said, \u201chas made it possible to rapidly identify cases, as well as their follow-up and isolation by epidemiology teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.granma.cu\/cuba-covid-19\/2020-09-06\/reconocen-enfrentamiento-efectivo-de-cuba-a-la-pandemia-06-09-2020-21-09-26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In statements<\/a> to the official newspaper <em>Granma<\/em>, Dr. Moya highlighted the measures taken in the country to achieve \u201cthe greatest possible social distancing,\u201d including the timely suspension of the school year\u2015now resumed in most Cuban provinces\u2015, the paralyzation of urban and interprovincial transportation and the temporary closure of commercial flights, which, he said, \u201cconsiderably reduced population mobility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, he praised as a \u201cnovel strategy\u201d the work of the family doctor and nurse\u2019s offices, \u201cwhere epidemiological and laboratory work in response to the pandemic begins,\u201d as well as teamwork, with a single national plan against COVID-19, and the value given to science, technology and innovation, and its contribution to the response to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"RwBsafHtVB\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/science-cuba\/health-in-cuba\/living-in-cuba-in-times-of-pandemic-ii\/\">Living in Cuba in times of pandemic (II)<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Living in Cuba in times of pandemic (II)&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/science-cuba\/health-in-cuba\/living-in-cuba-in-times-of-pandemic-ii\/embed\/#?secret=JO2z1n8itm#?secret=RwBsafHtVB\" data-secret=\"RwBsafHtVB\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Dr. Moya insisted on the importance of exchanging experiences and knowledge about a new disease, \u201cin which everything has to be investigated, and as a result of new evidence, knowledge, response, and care of patients are being improved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The official stated that \u201cboth WHO and PAHO have established spaces for this exchange, always seeking solidarity\u201d and said that \u201cthis is being achieved with contributions of drugs that help a better evolution of patients in serious or critical condition, or, as we see now, with vaccines that are already in advanced stages of research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the latter, he highlighted the work of Cuba with the Soberana 01 vaccine candidate, currently in the clinical trial phase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe firmly wish it passes all the controls and tests, so that it becomes an instrument of life at the service of humanity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"WwmaTr75Kv\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuban-soberana-01-vaccine\/\">Cuban Soberana 01 vaccine<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Cuban Soberana 01 vaccine&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuban-soberana-01-vaccine\/embed\/#?secret=XDe4IzuCNn#?secret=WwmaTr75Kv\" data-secret=\"WwmaTr75Kv\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, he noted that so far this year more than 300 virtual sessions have been held \u201cto be better informed and prepared in the response to the pandemic,\u201d and affirmed that PAHO supports its member countries, including Cuba, \u201cin the management and purchase of personal protective equipment, supplies and various medical devices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finally, he praised the medical aid provided by Cuba to other countries against COVID-19.
