It can then be affirmed that, although the Cuban-American vote had an influence on Donald Trump\u2019s victory, it was not as decisive as the rest of the Latino vote may have been.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Vote in Florida<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2020\/01\/31\/where-latinos-have-the-most-eligible-voters-in-the-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0by the Pew Research Center, the largest amount of U.S. citizens of Latino origin in the United States live in the states of California, Texas, Florida, New York and Arizona (in that order). By districts, Florida\u2019s 26th has the fifth largest population of Hispanics with the right to vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the current elections, of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dos.myflorida.com\/elections\/data-statistics\/voter-registration-statistics\/voter-registration-reportsxlsx\/voter-registration-by-county-and-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14,065,627 people registered to vote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> up to November 7, 11,031,440 votes had been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/11\/03\/us\/elections\/results-florida-president.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 1,529,823 more than the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dos.myflorida.com\/elections\/data-statistics\/elections-data\/voter-turnout\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">previous presidential elections<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The current president significantly raised the percentage of votes in his favor in the group of Hispanics\/Latinos and in the group of people between 30 and 44 years old. Meanwhile, Joe Biden increased the Democrats\u2019 percentage advantage among women, whites, blacks, college graduates, and people 45 and older. According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cri.fiu.edu\/research\/cuba-poll\/2020-fiu-cuba-poll.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuban Poll 2020<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> estimate from Florida International University (FIU), 697,785 Cubans would be registered to vote in these elections in the state. The figure represents 29.3% of Hispanics and 5.02% of all registered voters in Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the Cubans registered to vote, 52.6% have done so declaring themselves Republicans, while 25.8% do so for the Democratic Party and 21.5% among other parties and independents. This contrasts with the record of Hispanics in the state (24.7% Republican\/38.8% Democrat\/36.5% other and independent). This suggests that, although in Florida in general 52% of the vote of Cuban origin has favored Trump, in Miami-Dade it could have been higher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many make a correlation between the Cuban population and the electoral result in Miami-Dade\u2015which is, far from what some think, a traditionally Democratic county: since 1988, no Republican candidate has won it\u2015but evidently it cannot be directly related. Cubans represent about 32% of the vote in the county. The rest of the groups traditionally vote for the Democrats, although that advantage <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/es\/politics\/2020\/11\/05\/voto-latino-estados-unidos-elecciones-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was shortened in the group of other Latinos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in these elections, not only in Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Latinos, Cubans, in the 2020 elections in Florida<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In these elections there was a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/11\/03\/politics\/exit-polls-2020\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">decrease<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0in the percentage of Latinos who supported the Democratic candidate, but it must be understood that Latinos are a very heterogeneous group. What is known as the Latino vote in the United States is not a group that can be analyzed as a unitary bloc. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In strictu sensu<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, there <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/features\/theres-no-such-thing-as-the-latino-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">no is no \u201cLatin vote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d However, it is proven that people of this origin <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/features\/why-latino-voters-havent-completely-abandoned-the-gop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tend to be more Democrat than Republican<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a trend that has increased in recent years, in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/election\/2016\/results\/exit-polls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2016<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0presidential elections and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/election\/2018\/exit-polls\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2018<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Senate and House of Representatives elections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/latino-1-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-230164\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/latino-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/latino-1-1.jpg 497w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/latino-1-1-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year the Latinos constitute, for the first time in U.S. history, the most represented minority for the right to vote, with 32 million eligible people. This group <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2020\/01\/31\/where-latinos-have-the-most-eligible-voters-in-the-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">represented\u00a0 13.3%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the citizens with the right to vote in these elections (more than 60 million Latinos live in the United States).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These results require in-depth analysis, but to confirm that the Cuban-American vote did not determine Trump\u2019s victory, a simple count would suffice: if the 697,785 registered voters of Cuban origin in Florida had voted, the 3% increase would mean 20,933 more votes for Trump, which would represent 5.6% of the 373,476 votes that gave him victory in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami-Dade County, where the three districts with the largest presence of Cubans are located and where political influence is strongest, deserves a separate analysis. In this county the radicalization, the levels of support for the Republican Party and a hard line against Cuba are evident.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"Ff8ZJjR9AZ\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba-usa\/cuban-americans-and-the-2020-presidential-election-evidence-and-hypotheses-from-the-2020-cuba-poll-i\/\">Cuban-Americans and the 2020 Presidential Election: Evidence and Hypotheses from the 2020 Cuba Poll (I)<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Cuban-Americans and the 2020 Presidential Election: Evidence and Hypotheses from the 2020 Cuba Poll (I)&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba-usa\/cuban-americans-and-the-2020-presidential-election-evidence-and-hypotheses-from-the-2020-cuba-poll-i\/embed\/#?secret=K9cEpZI8vY#?secret=Ff8ZJjR9AZ\" data-secret=\"Ff8ZJjR9AZ\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two seats in Congress lost by Republicans in the 2018 midterm elections were recovered in this election and the campaign in favor of Trump, a president who has increased sanctions, which have been extremely active, on Cuba, affecting even family relations such as flights and remittances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Republican politicians, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/mundo\/ee-uu\/florida\/los-cubanoamericanos-y-la-eleccion-presidencial-evidencia-e-hipotesis-de-la-encuesta-cuba-2020-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with historical and constant work in the Cuban-American community<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, have also activated their influence because they have an environment conducive to that, an environment of hostility, black lists, intransigence, radicalization and a community that has other priorities and feels pressured. However, in these elections and in line with what is happening throughout the country, a movement of Cubans for Trump could be seen, but also one of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cubanosconbiden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cubans for Biden<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which shows that it is a divided community, where not everyone behaves in the same way politically.
