{"id":232715,"date":"2021-01-06T12:45:09","date_gmt":"2021-01-06T17:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=232715"},"modified":"2021-01-06T12:45:09","modified_gmt":"2021-01-06T17:45:09","slug":"havana-coppelia-ice-cream-parlor-prices-drop-after-complaints-about-new-rates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/havana-coppelia-ice-cream-parlor-prices-drop-after-complaints-about-new-rates\/","title":{"rendered":"Havana: Coppelia ice cream parlor prices drop after complaints about new rates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Cuban authorities announced a reduction in the prices of the famous Coppelia ice cream parlor, in <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/la-habana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Havana<\/a>, after the avalanche of criticism and complaints received when the new rates of the facility came into force as part of the monetary reorganization in place since this January 1 on the island.<\/p>\n<p>This was confirmed this Monday by Minister of Domestic Trade Betsy D\u00edaz, who commented on the <em>Mesa Redonda<\/em> television program that the measure responded to a \u201cvery rapid reaction\u201d by the government of the Cuban capital \u201clistening to the complaints of the population.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to D\u00edaz, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cubadebate.cu\/noticias\/2021\/01\/04\/ordenamiento-monetario-aclaraciones-y-correcciones-en-el-sistema-de-comercio-interior\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">quoted<\/a> by the official <em>Cubadebate<\/em> site, \u201cthe concept that prices are not subsidized has been ratified,\u201d despite which \u201cit\u2019s necessary that it be an economical offer and ensure the nutritional level that has been indicated, at around 627 kilocalories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister explained that the establishment of prices for a facility such as Coppelia in Havana is \u201ca complex process\u201d due to the fact that several suppliers concur, there are several flavors and specialties, and that after the review of the new rates it was decided to maintain the price of 7.00 CUP for the 90 gram ball\u2015which was the price initially established for the entire ice cream parlor\u2015only in the Las Cuatro Joyas room, \u201cwhere a different service is provided, at the table, with air-conditioning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For its part, the scoop of ice cream was lowered to 5.00 CUP in the open-air area and towers, while it was lowered to 4.00 CUP outside the Coppelia, where the ice cream is sold in cones.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"mXSXMuyqkn\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/economia\/la-tozudez-de-los-precios\/\">La tozudez de los precios<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abLa tozudez de los precios\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/economia\/la-tozudez-de-los-precios\/embed\/#?secret=aDHSdGAowC#?secret=mXSXMuyqkn\" data-secret=\"mXSXMuyqkn\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The head of domestic trade also said that \u201cin the rest of the country, where in several provinces it also appeared at 7.00 CUP initially, the price was also revised and today it ranges between 2.00 and 4.00 CUP,\u201d in such a way that already this Monday afternoon there was no territory with the highest price, because \u201cthe ice cream is not comparable with that of Coppelia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, she reported that the authorities were also reviewing the population\u2019s \u201cdissatisfaction\u201d with the prices of other products such as pizzas, hamburgers, juices and hotdogs, as well as the categories of the gastronomic units.<\/p>\n<p>This Monday, the official media <a href=\"http:\/\/www.granma.cu\/tarea-ordenamiento\/2021-01-04\/reduciran-precios-en-la-habana-de-coppelia-expocuba-parque-lenin-y-la-isla-del-coco-04-01-2021-17-01-26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had announced<\/a> that \u201cafter a thorough analysis of the population\u2019s criteria,\u201d the Havana government had decided to reduce the new prices not only for the Coppelia ice cream parlor, but also for recreational facilities such as Expocuba, Lenin Park and La Isla del Coco, due to the complaints from the capital\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n<p>Since the announcement last December of the beginning of the monetary reorganization in Cuba and the subsequent publication of the new prices, the government has rectified some of the announced rates\u2015such as electricity and liquefied gas\u2015as a result of complaints and concerns by Cubans.
