in Cuba: 637 positive cases reported, 324 just in Havana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A total of 637 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Cuba, to reach 4,641 active patients, the highest figure since the appearance of the first patients in March of last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Francisco Dur\u00e1n reported in the usual Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/salud.msp.gob.cu\/parte-de-cierre-del-dia-23-de-enero-a-las-12-de-la-noche\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that this figure responds to the 14,237 samples taken yesterday, which is why 9,495 are hospitalized, 3,472 are suspects and 1,382 are under epidemiological surveillance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dur\u00e1n also reported on the situation in the Cuban capital, with 324 positive cases on the day, more than half of the total for the entire country, while the provinces of Santiago de Cuba with were 88, Guant\u00e1namo with 56 and Matanzas with 54, reported high figures, these being the ones with the highest incidence rate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were also three deceased (now a total of 194), all older than 70 years with previous illnesses: two 72-year-old patients and an 89-year-old man.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of autochthonous cases of the day (560) is striking; they were reported in the island\u2019s 15 provinces, and 43 of the cases positive for SARS-CoV-2 had a source of infection abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" of imported cases has been decreasing in recent days, around 70-80% of the registered cases are contacts of patients coming from abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the 637 cases, 347 are women and 287 are men, 214 were asymptomatic (33.7%), while by age group the cases over 60 stand out (116), and those under 20, with 48.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding medical discharges, 506 were notified in the day, 48 patients are in intensive care, 15 in critical condition and 33 in serious condition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the cases of this January 23, Cuba has 21,261 positive cases to COVID-19, reported based on 1,778,231 samples.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The
