src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fern\u00e1ndez de Coss\u00edo\u2019s statements come after U.S. intelligence agencies (including the CIA and the National Security Agency), in a 15-page <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/int.nyt.com\/data\/documenttools\/2021-intelligence-community-election-interference-assessment\/abd0346ebdd93e1e\/full.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> indicated that Hezbollah, Cuba and Venezuela \u201ctook some steps to influence the elections,\u201d but they were \u201csmaller in scale\u201d than the attempts by Russia and Iran.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the case of Cuba, the intelligence agencies affirm that Havana tried to promote \u201cnarratives\u201d against Trump and the Republicans, and in favor of the Democrats in the Latin American community in the U.S. Likewise, they pointed out that \u201cCuban intelligence probably carried out some low-level activities to support this effort.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, regarding Venezuela, they considered that President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro had the \u201cintention, but probably not the ability to influence public opinion\u201d against Trump, and acknowledged that they had no information to suggest that the current or previous Venezuelan government was involved in \u201cattempting to compromise the electoral infrastructure\u201d of the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea that Cuba and Venezuela had influenced the U.S. elections had been publicly launched last November by Sidney Powell, a lawyer for the Trump campaign, who then said at a press conference that \u201ccommunist money\u201d had been used for this purpose, and also implicated China in the alleged interference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lawyer, who shortly after would be separated from the legal team of the then president, also affirmed at that time that the Dominion Voting Systems software, used during the elections, \u201cwas created in the South American nation to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the results obtained,\u201d which was denied by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Powell\u2019s statements, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prensa-latina.cu\/index.php?o=rn&amp;id=412514&amp;SEO=canciller-de-cuba-rechaza-supuesta-injerencia-en-elecciones-de-ee.uu&amp;fbclid=IwAR0OatCmjKk_iWrtEG6s0pyYUp5ng5IKkJFdFhHVqQWICKgWThBLveVJTXg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">considered<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the lawyer\u2019s words were \u201cpure slander\u201d and said that Trump\u2019s representatives were lying \u201cmercilessly by spreading false information about the alleged Cuban interference in the U.S. elections.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, he emphasized that, unlike the U.S. State Department, \u201cCuba does not interfere in the electoral process of other countries.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A companion report by the Justice and Homeland Security Departments, released now, \u201calso rejected false accusations promoted by Mr. Trump\u2019s allies in the weeks after the vote that Venezuela or other countries had defrauded the election,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/03\/16\/us\/politics\/election-interference-russia-2020-assessment.html?action=click&amp;module=Top%20Stories&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;fbclid=IwAR3d4DvZUdWhdOrm2TeC4G7QUQNzUVYufZ4agi5IXyCYVYXZncYsw8kxR3o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to <\/span><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New York Times<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The intelligence report<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report by the U.S. intelligence agencies, which the New York publication considers \u201cthe most comprehensive intelligence assessment\u201d on the subject, concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin interfered in favor of former President Donald Trump, while Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei tried to harm the Republican leader.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specifically, the intelligence agencies claim that Putin \u201cauthorized\u201d a \u201cwide range\u201d of operations to undermine public confidence in the electoral process and exacerbate divisions in the United States in order to help Trump and harm Biden as well as the Democratic Party.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another similar report published four years ago, U.S. intelligence agencies claimed that Putin influenced the November 2016 elections because he felt a \u201cclear\u201d preference for Trump, who was elected over the Democrat Hillary Clinton. This time, however, Putin did not order cyberattacks and his \u201cmain tool\u201d was the use of groups linked to Russia to create a series of narratives, including false or unsubstantiated allegations about Biden.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the case of Iran, the report highlights that there was a \u201ccovert multi-pronged campaign of influence\u201d by the Islamic Republic to undermine support for Trump. It also points out that Khamenei \u201cauthorized\u201d a campaign by the Iranian armed forces and its intelligence services that included cyberattacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for China, the document concludes that the government of that country \u201cdid not deploy interference efforts,\u201d because it believed that the risk of interfering and being discovered outweighed any benefit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cChina sought stability in its relations with the United States and considered that none of the election results were going to be advantageous enough for China to risk a setback if caught,\u201d the text states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the election campaign, without providing evidence, Trump repeated that China was trying to favor Biden because he had deployed a tough trade policy with the Asian giant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight:
