{"id":237030,"date":"2021-04-02T13:15:38","date_gmt":"2021-04-02T17:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=237030"},"modified":"2021-04-02T13:15:38","modified_gmt":"2021-04-02T17:15:38","slug":"cuba-begins-april-with-record-coronavirus-infections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/coronavirus\/cuba-begins-april-with-record-coronavirus-infections\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuba begins April with record coronavirus infections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the first day of April, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/salud.msp.gob.cu\/parte-de-cierre-del-dia-1-de-abril-a-las-12-de-la-noche\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a new record of infections due to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SARS-CoV-2 virus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, after identifying 1,077 positive cases among 20,749 samples processed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Four deaths were also reported as a result of COVID-19. They are two women and two men, aged between 64 and 95, and they are from the provinces of Havana, Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Thursday\u2019s deaths, the death toll from the pandemic on the island already stands at 429, more than a year after its confrontation. Two foreigners were also diagnosed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of cases increased in a great many of the provinces, although the highest figures were registered in Havana (516), Granma (116), Matanzas (98), Santiago de Cuba (72) and Sancti Sp\u00edritus (54).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only territory that diagnosed less than ten infections was Holgu\u00edn, with two cases. This territory also has the lowest incidence rate in the last two weeks (16 per 100,000 inhabitants).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compared to the rest of the regions, Las Tunas did not report infections, despite having processed samples, as Dr. Francisco Dur\u00e1n stressed in his daily television appearance. The incidence rate in this province is 17.1 per 100,000 inhabitants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In general, Havana, Granma and Santiago de Cuba continue to be the main territories in terms of incidence in the last two weeks, a period in which 11 Havana municipalities together with Bayamo (Granma) concentrate 50.6% of the transmissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also notable among the day\u2019s increases is that experienced in the ICUs, whose number of admissions rose yesterday to 83 (34 in critical condition and 49 in serious condition). On March 14, intensive care admissions rose to 87, setting a record for seriously ill patients as a result of this disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discharges involved 858 people while 24,939 continued hospitalized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By age group, the statistics behaved in this way: 148 under 20 years of age, and among them 131 in pediatric ages; in addition, 11 were not yet one year old, seven were younger than seven months and there were two newborns, according to Dr. Dur\u00e1n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rest of the age group: 375 between 20 and 39 years old, 383 between 40 and 59 years old, and 171 over 60.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">47% of the cases on April 1 were asymptomatic.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1,077 cases detected this Thursday, a day where four deaths were reported.
