{"id":237501,"date":"2021-04-14T13:47:41","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T17:47:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=237501"},"modified":"2021-04-14T13:47:41","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T17:47:41","slug":"u-s-senators-seek-reactivation-of-cruises-for-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba-usa\/u-s-senators-seek-reactivation-of-cruises-for-july\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S.: Senators seek reactivation of cruises for July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Republican senators Marco Rubio, Rick Scott and Mar\u00eda Elvira Salazar presented a bill on Tuesday that seeks the reactivation of the cruise industry in United States ports no later than next July, after a <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba-usa\/u-s-cruises-to-cuba-banned-the-end-of-an-era\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paralysis<\/a> of more than a year due to the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The so-called Careful Resumption Under Improved Safety Enhancements Act (CRUISE) would repeal the current \u201cDo Not Sail Order\u201d of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> (CDC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe closure of the cruise industry is wrong and is killing jobs in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Florida<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and throughout the United States,\u201d Senator Scott said on his Twitter account when announcing the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"MXGQTRopcP\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/coronavirus\/lineas-de-crucero-quieren-reanudar-los-viajes-con-todos-los-pasajeros-y-tripulantes-vacunados\/\">L\u00edneas de crucero quieren reanudar los viajes con todos los pasajeros y tripulantes vacunados<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abL\u00edneas de crucero quieren reanudar los viajes con todos los pasajeros y tripulantes vacunados\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/coronavirus\/lineas-de-crucero-quieren-reanudar-los-viajes-con-todos-los-pasajeros-y-tripulantes-vacunados\/embed\/#?secret=v0u6NoszJM#?secret=MXGQTRopcP\" data-secret=\"MXGQTRopcP\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiative would require CDC to provide a COVID-19 mitigation guide for cruise lines to safely resume their voyages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sued the federal government to demand that it immediately allow the resumption of the cruises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lawsuit was against the CDC and the administration of Democrat Joe Biden is seeking to reactivate this industry that feels punished and at a disadvantage compared to other tourist activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CRUISE project requires CDC to issue recommendations on how to mitigate the risks of the pandemic for passengers and crew aboard cruise ships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It establishes an inter-institutional working group that will develop recommendations to facilitate the resumption of cruise operations no later than July 4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhile many sectors of the economy have been safely operating for months under CDC guidelines,\u00a0Floridians, and those across the nation that rely on the cruise industry for work, continue to wait for updated guidance from the CDC,\u201d Scott said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiative was presented by Senators Scott and Rubio, from Florida, and will be promoted in the Lower House by Congresswoman Salazar, who also represents a southern district of this state. Likewise, it is sponsored by Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWelcoming more than 5 million passengers and $9 billion directly into our economy each year, Miami is the cruise capital of the world and it is time to start sailing again,\u201d said Salazar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For his part, Senator Sullivan said that unlike airlines, rail and other modes of transportation, and all other sectors of the hospitality industry, \u201ccruise lines have been denied a clear direction from the CDC on how to resume interrupted navigation in the country\u2019s ports as of March 14, 2020, and has extended the suspension until next November 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In early April, the CDC updated the measures that govern the pandemic for cruises from U.S. ports but maintained the recommendation to the population not to embark on pleasure trips.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span
