The number of patients in ICUs rose to 126: 40 in critical condition and 86 in serious condition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the day\u2019s fatalities, the death toll from COVID-19 already stands at 814. They were six women and four men between the ages of 38 and 94 and residing in Havana, Holgu\u00edn and Las Tunas.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\">Se confirmaron 1 057 nuevos casos de <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID19<\/a>, para un acumulado de 124 454.<br \/>6 892 casos activos<br \/>6 766 evoluci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica estable <br \/>40 pacientes en estado cr\u00edtico<br \/>86 pacientes en estado grave<br \/>814 fallecidos <br \/>117 749 pacientes recuperados <br \/>2 evacuados<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aW2sSTwmeS\">https:\/\/t.co\/aW2sSTwmeS<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LprcyhW1rh\">pic.twitter.com\/LprcyhW1rh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ministerio de Salud P\u00fablica de Cuba (@MINSAPCuba) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MINSAPCuba\/status\/1394300961598881794?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 17, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/salud.msp.gob.cu\/parte-de-cierre-del-dia-16-de-mayo-a-las-12-de-la-noche-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, of the 1,057 infections, 990 are due to autochthonous transmission; 959 were contacts of confirmed cases and 67 were imported cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of those who were infected abroad were Cuban travelers from Russia (64), although there were also infections from travelers coming from the United States (two) and Ecuador (one).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, seven foreigners tested positive, all due to autochthonous transmission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By age group, 165 had not reached the age of 20; 371 are between 20 and 39 and 330 between 40 and 59; 191 were aged over 60 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Havana (588) and Santiago de Cuba (70) were the territories with the highest number of detected cases, although Pinar del R\u00edo also reported 54 and Mayabeque 59.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the contrary, Matanzas was the only province that reported less than ten infections, while the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud continues without registering cases in 26 days, according to Dr. Francisco Dur\u00e1n in his daily appearance on Cuban television.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba\u2019s incidence rate has decreased in the last 15 days to 141.9 per 100,000 inhabitants and 48% of transmission is concentrated in 11 of the capital\u2019s municipalities and one in Pinar del R\u00edo, Sandino, which is at the head of this indicator with a rate of 596.0 per 100,000 inhabitants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Until midnight, the MINSAP registered 27,509 hospitalizations and 6,892 active cases.
