But, this day, according to the national director of Epidemiology, the highest number of active cases was reported: 930.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And among the very high number of 130 patients in intensive care (40 in critical condition and 90 in serious condition) one was a 36-day-old baby.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\">Se confirmaron 1 244 nuevos casos de <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID19<\/a>, para un acumulado de 126 755.<\/p>\n<p>6 712 casos activos<br \/>6 582 evoluci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica estable <br \/>40 pacientes en estado cr\u00edtico<br \/>90 pacientes en estado grave<br \/>826 fallecidos <br \/>119 161 pacientes recuperados <br \/>2 evacuados<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TyRdaWDRWq\">https:\/\/t.co\/TyRdaWDRWq<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/P8GIHwdgs5\">pic.twitter.com\/P8GIHwdgs5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ministerio de Salud P\u00fablica de Cuba (@MINSAPCuba) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MINSAPCuba\/status\/1394664603859230725?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 18, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to this age group, the infections behaved in this way: 377 between 20 and 39 years, 416 between 40 and 59 and 199 over 60 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the 1,244 infections, 1,205 are due to autochthonous transmission, 1,171 were contacts of confirmed cases and the number of imported cases decreased to 39, due to Cuban travelers mostly from Russia (37), but also from the United States (one) and Mexico (one).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/salud.msp.gob.cu\/parte-de-cierre-del-dia-17-de-mayo-a-las-12-de-la-noche-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, after the processing of 21,995 PCR samples, that five foreigners tested positive due to autochthonous transmission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The death toll from the virus is 826 with the 12 reported on Monday. They were eight men and four women, aged between 45 and 90 and residing in the provinces of Havana, Matanzas, Artemisa, Sancti Sp\u00edritus, Camag\u00fcey and Santiago de Cuba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Havana registered 600 infections, and the numbers for provinces such as Mayabeque (128) and Santiago de Cuba (100) increased compared to the ones reported yesterday. No territory presented fewer than 10 cases on the day and only the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud was free of cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The incidence rate in Cuba is now 144.8 per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 15 days, a period in which 11 of the capital\u2019s municipalities and Sandino, in Pinar del R\u00edo, which since yesterday headed this group, concentrated 49.1% of the transmission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yesterday, 1,412 discharges were reported, with which 119,161 patients have already recovered in Cuba from the virus and its disease, COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">46.5% of the cases were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now there are 16,443 children and adolescents who have suffered from the coronavirus since its inception in March 2020. 12 deaths were also reported on the day.
