The month of May is currently the one with the worst indicators of COVID -19 for Cuba, with a total of 33,544 confirmed cases with the new coronavirus and 296 deaths, according to the national director of Epidemiology, Dr. Francisco Dur\u00e1n.<\/span><\/p>\n

In its <\/span>usual report <\/span><\/a>the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) registered 1,079 SARS-CoV-2 positive cases on the day of May 29, after 23,002 samples were processed.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was also known of the death of seven people, aged between 32 and 91 years of age from Havana (3), Holgu\u00edn (2), and one per capita from Santiago de Cuba and Pinar del R\u00edo, with which the death toll from the disease in the country already stands at 950.<\/span><\/p>\n

At this time, there are 27,072 hospitalized patients, 4,154 suspects, 16,779 under epidemiological surveillance, and 6,139 active confirmed cases.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of the day\u2019s cases, 1,011 are contacts of confirmed cases, 36 do not have a precise source of infection and 468 were asymptomatic at the time of testing positive for the coronavirus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of the 1,079 cases, 570 are men and 509 are women, while by age group there are 176 under 20 years (155 in pediatric ages); between 20 and 39 years 344 cases, from 40 to 59 there are 362 and 197 are over 60 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Dur\u00e1n drew attention to the number of pediatric patients in the country, where 901 are currently hospitalized, of which four are in ICUs, three of them infants under 1 year of age.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding the origin of the 1,079 cases of the day, 1,047 are due to autochthonous transmission and 32 are imported cases, 27 from Russia, mostly Cuban travelers.<\/span><\/p>\n

By provinces, Havana accumulated 434 cases, Santiago de Cuba 111 and Cienfuegos 71, while Pinar del R\u00edo, Matanzas and Ciego de \u00c1vila also reported high numbers of cases. The Isla de la Juventud, on the other hand, hasn\u2019t reported COVID-19 cases for a whole week.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dur\u00e1n specified in the MINSAP report that the country has 105 active outbreaks, 71 in Havana, seven in Pinar del R\u00edo, six in Santiago and five in Cienfuegos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of the 6,139 COVID-19 positive cases the country currently has, 5,992 have a stable clinical evolution, while 147 patients are in ICUs, 53 in critical condition and 94 in serious condition, and there were 1,111 medical discharges.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
