{"id":241693,"date":"2021-07-21T14:59:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-21T18:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=241693"},"modified":"2023-10-12T13:45:39","modified_gmt":"2023-10-12T17:45:39","slug":"what-foods-can-be-brought-to-cuba-and-what-imports-are-forbidden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/what-foods-can-be-brought-to-cuba-and-what-imports-are-forbidden\/","title":{"rendered":"What foods can be brought to Cuba and what imports are forbidden?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the new measures for the non-commercial import of <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/alimentos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">food<\/a>, medicines and toiletries, Cuba maintains the prohibition of the entry to the country of fresh, frozen, dehydrated or salted meats, as well as fluid milk and unpasteurized dairy derivatives, due to existing sanitary regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The Cuban Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) published this Tuesday a group of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minag.gob.cu\/node\/3665\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">special regulations<\/a> for the entry of food of animal and vegetable origin, in line with the provisions approved days ago by the Cuban government regarding the import of basic products without limits or payment of customs tax, the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acn.cu\/cuba\/82327-publican-regulaciones-para-la-importacion-de-alimentos-a-cuba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agencia Cubana de Noticias<\/a><\/em> news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>The regulations explain that the entry to the island of canned bovine, pork and poultry meat, duly identified and of recognized trademarks, is authorized.<\/p>\n<p>However, the source indicates that these products must come from the countries eligible for Cuba, either due to their current animal health situation or through agreements established between Official Veterinary Services. They are Spain, Portugal, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.<\/p>\n<p>Other products produced in those countries, such as sausages and powdered milk, apply within the new measures adopted by the government after the massive <a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/protestas-11-de-julio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">July 11 protests<\/a> and in the face of the persistent shortage of food and other basic products affecting Cubans.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"8XxPSPlCne\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuba-new-measures-for-import-of-food-medicine-and-toiletries-come-into-force-as-of-this-monday\/\">Cuba: new measures for import of food, medicine and toiletries come into force as of this Monday<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Cuba: new measures for import of food, medicine and toiletries come into force as of this Monday&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuba-new-measures-for-import-of-food-medicine-and-toiletries-come-into-force-as-of-this-monday\/embed\/#?secret=75I5DX2gLC#?secret=8XxPSPlCne\" data-secret=\"8XxPSPlCne\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, there is no origin limitation for canned seafood, UHT fluid, condensed, evaporated milk, and dairy desserts, pasteurized mature cheeses or made from ultra-pasteurized milk.<\/p>\n<p>The regulation specifies that all products must be fully packaged, labeled, sealed and be of recognized brands.
