According to Dr. Nilda Roca Men\u00e9ndez, deputy director general of the Provincial Health Department, in just 78 days 1,252,000 people residing in Havana received the three doses of the Abdala vaccine, the most extensive vaccination campaign that has ever been carried out in the city and the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Roca Men\u00e9ndez described the immunization process that began on May 12 in the municipalities of San Miguel del Padr\u00f3n, Guanabacoa, La Habana del Este, and Regla as a big party, and added that it progressively spread to the rest of the territories until successfully ending on July 31.<\/span><\/p>\n

For this, 2,017 vaccination sites were enabled and nurses, doctors, dentists, technologists and medical students were trained.<\/span><\/p>\n

It also had the support of the municipal authorities, and of companies and institutions that ensured the infrastructure in the family doctor\u2019s offices and guaranteed the cold storage chain in each of the vaccination sites.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conditions created in the teaching polyclinics made it possible to start the application of the first dose to all pregnant women with more than three months of gestation and to breastfeeding mothers as of July 29.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vaccination centers have been set up in the health areas of the fifteen territories for the more than 250,000 Havanans who have not been able to start or complete the immunization scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n

Havana was also the venue of the phase I, II and III clinical trials of Soberana 02, which made it possible to vaccinate 30,770 people, in addition to the interventions in health workers and risk groups.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
