{"id":245303,"date":"2021-10-30T09:31:53","date_gmt":"2021-10-30T13:31:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=245303"},"modified":"2021-10-30T09:31:53","modified_gmt":"2021-10-30T13:31:53","slug":"more-than-114000-international-travelers-arrived-in-cuba-in-first-half-of-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/more-than-114000-international-travelers-arrived-in-cuba-in-first-half-of-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 114,000 international travelers arrived in Cuba in first half of 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the first semester of 2021, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/turismo-en-cuba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba received<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a total of 114,460 international travelers, a figure that represents a decrease of 870,739 visitors, compared to the same period in 2020, according to the latest data published by the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the visitors came from Russia \u2014 with 72,304 travelers \u2014, a country that has already become the main source of tourists to the island during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is followed by the Cuban community residing abroad, which registered 12,207 travelers between January and June. They arrived mainly from countries such as the United States (7,258), Spain (2,393), Mexico (658), France (473), Panama (462), Bahamas (344) and Germany (218).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The remaining travelers came from Germany, from where 4,719 tourists arrived; others traveled from Spain (3,753); Canada (2,296), Philippines (2,017), Italy (1,680), United States (1,565), France (1,511), Ukraine (1,070), and United Kingdom (1,061).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding the reasons for the trip, the ONEI specifies that 99,669 were tourists who arrived for leisure, recreation and vacations; 1,843 did so for business and professional reasons; 45 for events; and 12,903 for other reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report recalls that during 2020 Cuba received just over a million visitors and in 2019 it reached more than 4.2 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The island announced a total reopening to tourism as of November 15 with reduced COVID-19 measures that eliminate the mandatory quarantine after arrival and an increase in international air connections.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"4v0Rx6RIau\"><p><a second official source of foreign exchange income \u2014 only behind the sale of professional services abroad \u2014 and contributed about 10% of the GDP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Caribbean country intended to receive some 4.5 million international visitors last year and reverse the 9.3% decrease in 2019, when 4.2 million tourists traveled to the country, 436,352
