{"id":245626,"date":"2021-11-10T14:29:34","date_gmt":"2021-11-10T19:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=245626"},"modified":"2021-11-10T14:29:34","modified_gmt":"2021-11-10T19:29:34","slug":"u-s-official-again-refers-to-situation-in-cuba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba-usa\/u-s-official-again-refers-to-situation-in-cuba\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. official again refers to situation in Cuba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/cuba-usa-relations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">United States <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">government, through the spokesman for the State Department, Ned Price, once again warned that Cuba could receive new sanctions \u201cshould the repression and human rights abuses not cease.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a press briefing this Monday and questioned about it, Price added that \u201cthe world is expecting protests in the coming days,\u201d referring to the march <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuba-playwright-and-activist-yunior-garcia-responds-to-accredited-foreign-press\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced for the 15th of this month<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and to which the Cuban government has denied permission for defining it as \u201cillicit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Daily Press Briefing - November 8, 2021 - 2:00 PM\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6U8e-jLgD4A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Cuban people have made clear that they will once again peacefully march in the streets to make clear their aspirations for democracy, human rights, civil liberties,\u201d said the official.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Havana has not only denied that request, unprecedented in more than 60 years, but also warned the conveners that they will be charged with crimes and will be prosecuted if they continue with said decision. Given that reality, Price remarked to journalists that Washington would be preparing new sanctions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have sought, in doing so, to impose tangible and significant consequences in connection with the abuses (in the protests last July in Cuba). The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba-usa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">United States has already sanctioned<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> senior Cuban military officials for their alleged role in this repression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have centered our efforts in Cuba on this question of the rights of the Cuban people, and steps that we can take to advance the cause of democracy on the island,\u201d said Price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight:
