Cuba and Venezuela<\/span><\/a> urged Washington to stop financing terrorism and subversion against them, according to <\/span>a statement<\/span><\/a> released this Monday by the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX).<\/span><\/p>\n

This was one of the main demands of the 11th Meeting of the Venezuela-Cuba Friendship and Mutual Solidarity Movement, held virtually over the weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting demanded the \u201ccessation of financing and promotion of terrorism and subversion by the U.S. government and its allies against the Cuban and Bolivarian revolutions,\u201d actions that in their opinion are \u201caimed at generating social and political violence to reduce popular support for those processes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The participants in the meeting also urged Washington to end the U.S. \u201ceconomic, commercial and financial\u201d blockade of Cuba, an embargo that has been \u201cintensified by 243 coercive measures adopted by the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021), which continue under Joe Biden.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting also demanded the \u201cimmediate and unconditional\u201d repeal of the declaration of Venezuela as an \u201cunusual and extraordinary threat to the security\u201d of the United States, \u201cas well as all the punitive actions taken\u201d against the Bolivarian country.<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting also served to reiterate the support of Venezuela and Cuba for their presidents, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel, respectively, as \u201cguarantors of the transition to socialism and of the transformations towards a more humane society.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The final statement also recognized \u201cthe position of international brotherhood expressed in the solidarity cooperation maintained by Cuba,\u201d with the sending of dozens of medical brigades from the Henry Reeve contingent to confront COVID-19 in some 40 countries, as well as \u201cthe altruistic work developed by Cuban doctors in Venezuela during the last two decades\u201d and \u201cthe scientific capacity of the island with the development of various vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Migration talks<\/b><\/p>\n

For their part, representatives of Cuba and Venezuela virtually carried out this Monday the 5th Round of Migration Talks between the governments of both nations.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the work sessions, held \u201cin a frank, cordial and cooperative environment,\u201d the migration flow between the two countries was assessed and \u201cthe status of compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding on Migration Issues and the Memorandum for the Exchange of Migration Alerts and Security Information was verified, as effective mechanisms for migratory control, the fight against the illegal smuggling of migrants and human trafficking, and the adequate treatment of migrants,\u201d the MINREX <\/span>said<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The island\u2019s Foreign Ministry statement affirms that \u201cboth parties reiterated the importance of this type of meeting for relations between the two countries, while reaffirming the will and commitment of their respective governments to continue carrying out joint actions to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the area of \u200b\u200bmigration, in order to guarantee a regular, orderly and safe flow of travelers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The round of talks was chaired by Deputy Foreign Ministers Gerardo Pe\u00f1alver Portal, from Cuba, and Rander Pe\u00f1a Ram\u00edrez, from Venezuela.<\/span><\/p>\n
