{"id":246707,"date":"2021-12-08T11:19:53","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T16:19:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=246707"},"modified":"2021-12-08T11:19:53","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T16:19:53","slug":"seven-undocumented-cubans-found-in-a-miami-dade-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba-usa\/seven-undocumented-cubans-found-in-a-miami-dade-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Seven undocumented Cubans found in a Miami-Dade park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seven Cubans, between the ages of 24 and 40, were found in a park on the seashore in Coral Gables (Miami-Dade) and the police are now investigating if they were brought into the country by human traffickers, local media reported this Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cubans said they were from Havana and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/cuban-rafters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had sailed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> seven days on a boat built by them before arriving at Matheson Hammock Park, located in one of the most exclusive residential areas of Miami-Dade County.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Cuban Migrants Detained After Coming Ashore in Coral Gables <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XmSXKqcl4S\">https:\/\/t.co\/XmSXKqcl4S<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NBC 6 South Florida (@nbc6) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nbc6\/status\/1468067150178963458?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 7, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Police gave them blankets, hot drinks and food before Customs and Border (CBP) officers took charge of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the so-called \u201cwet foot, dry foot\u201d law had not been repealed during the presidency of Barack Obama (2009-2017), the Cubans would have automatically obtained the right to initiate the procedures to stay in the country, since they were discovered on land.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to local media, the authorities suspect that there was a human trafficking operation involved in this case and that the Cubans could have been left on a sandbar near the coast by the traffickers.
