{"id":246713,"date":"2021-12-08T12:14:30","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T17:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=246713"},"modified":"2021-12-08T12:14:30","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T17:14:30","slug":"residents-of-central-cuba-give-a-doctor-a-motorcycle-as-a-gift-for-his-care-during-the-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/residents-of-central-cuba-give-a-doctor-a-motorcycle-as-a-gift-for-his-care-during-the-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"Residents of central Cuba give a doctor a motorcycle as a gift for his care during the pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On December 3, the day of Latin American Medicine, the inhabitants of Santa Lucia, a town in the municipality of Cabaigu\u00e1n in the central Cuban province of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/sancti-spiritus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sancti Sp\u00edritus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, surprised doctor Miguel Alexander Concepci\u00f3n L\u00f3pez with a ceremony in which poets, country improvisers were not lacking, plus a very special surprise: a Suzuki motorcycle as a gift.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNo authorities or mobilization were involved,\u201d indicated teacher Sandra Luciano, a neighbor of Santa Lucia and promoter of the idea behind the doctor\u2019s back of a group on Facebook they named \u201cDoctor of Santa Lucia lives on the red line\u201d which was joined by the specialist\u2019s family. Not only people from Santa Lucia joined but also from neighboring areas, from Cuatro Esquinas, Cabaigu\u00e1n, Sancti Sp\u00edritus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gathered in a crowd in front of the specialist\u2019s house, the neighbors waited for the doctor, who, not understanding what was happening, stunned and excited, witnessed the ceremony, in which he was the protagonist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeyond the material, what gave me the most satisfaction was seeing so many people who went there, practically alone, on their own. They organized the schedule, they waited, some had even been waiting for a long time&#8230;it\u2019s amazing, \u201csaid Dr. Concepci\u00f3n L\u00f3pez.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe initiative was born out of pain,\u201d said Sandra Luciano, and the journalist from Radio Sancti Sp\u00edritus, Elsa Ramos, tells it on her Facebook profile.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Felsa.ramosramirez%2Fposts%2F4711241605580472&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"714\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI called on the people, so many grateful people for the care he gave to so many sick people in the community because it was a very tough month with COVID. The call was to contribute what they could: from 20, 50 pesos for a gift for the doctor,\u201d Luciano recalls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the teacher, it all began in October, when her family, consisting of her husband, a young son, and her 85-year-old mother, with dementia, tested positive for COVID-19. After 23 days fighting the infection, her mother passed away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But, during the whole process they had been accompanied by the specialist, who \u201ccould not do more because God decided that it could not be done,\u201d affirmed Luciano, who narrated how Miguel Alexander Concepci\u00f3n L\u00f3pez visited them in the morning and in the evening, \u201che was completely devoted, every day I asked him if she was better until Friday evening and she died on Saturday.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fsandra.luciano.716970%2Fvideos%2F441723164192258%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=267&amp;t=0\" width=\"267\" height=\"476\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThey were very difficult moments,\u201d said the specialist: \u201cI held out my hand. It was difficult to see so many people who were sick, who had already had COVID, were at home and I decided to help the community doctors. Sometimes the mere fact of being close to them, guiding them in what to do, is extremely important.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was thus that seeing \u201cAle\u2019s situation in his coming and going to the hospital, because he is a surgeon at the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital, so many people looking for him even during his leisure time, we talked as a family about the idea of \u200b\u200brewarding him, but we talked about bringing people together, whoever would like to join, to buy a motorbike,\u201d narrated, for her part, the promoter of the popular initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs it grew, I, who have been a teacher in the community since I was 18 years old, thought: \u2018I can\u2019t do this on my own.\u2019 So I selected a worker from the Banco Popular de Ahorro, Maibi Garc\u00e9s; she was the treasurer. There was an audit of this money with members of the group on November 25, we tried to do it with all the transparency that a town needs. We collected 256,240 pesos,\u201d the teacher said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Sandra, they also \u201cstimulated\u201d another doctor from the Provincial Hospital known as Chichi, who had also helped in this stage of the epidemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI tell the world without lying and whoever I have to tell, that I have lived only two moments like this, which was the birth of my two children. Nothing compares to the emotion I experienced that day. I believe that my mother has accompanied me in all these moments to give me this strength and wherever she is I know that she will be satisfied with this wonderful gesture.
