Currently, according to CITMA figures, it is around 30%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, the sea level is rising, which affects the environment, the economy and the settlements on the coast. The Cuban government estimates that it will be necessary to relocate more than a million people, 9% of the country\u2019s population.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The documentary, in which representatives of the Cuban government appear almost exclusively, offers an eminently positive view of the Tarea Vida program and does not include voices from environmental groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>A \u201cUNIQUE\u201d PROGRAM<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faced with the risks of climate change, Cuba has launched a hundred-year program, the only one of its kind in the world, emphasized Yaffe, author of the book <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are Cuba!\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">about the survival of the country\u2019s communist system after the collapse of the Soviet bloc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCuba has a long-term state response that combines the adoption of science in laws, natural and national solutions, and community participation,\u201d she explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She highlights, first of all, that the government has \u201cabsolute confidence\u201d in science, which is included in its legislation and that the country has \u201cincredible scientific capacity,\u201d as it has also shown by developing three COVID-19 vaccines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Secondly, she points out that, since Cuba \u201cpractically cannot access\u201d international financing, it has resorted to \u201cnational solutions\u201d instead of waiting for external funds, either from the UN green fund or from multilateral banks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Cuban approach can be relevant to the rest of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/caribbean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caribbean<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other countries, especially now that many are in debt,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cuba\u2019s Life Task: Combatting Climate Change\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/APN6N45Q6iU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third point is community participation and the decentralization of the initiative, which Yaffe contrasts with plans in the West, proposed from above and guided by profit, while young people protest in the streets and demand more ambitious action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the \u201cdisappointment\u201d that COP26 has meant, there is expectation in the face of \u201can alternative response to an existential threat,\u201d said the producer. In fact, she adds, the documentary is having an \u201cincredible reception,\u201d from Australia to Latin America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yaffe warns against those who initially disdain the Cuban government\u2019s response to climate change \u201cfor political reasons\u201d and asks that the plan be judged by its effectiveness. She pointed out that this does not happen with other countries also questioned for their actions in the area of \u200b\u200bhuman
