
{"id":249118,"date":"2022-02-11T13:30:38","date_gmt":"2022-02-11T18:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=249118"},"modified":"2022-02-11T13:30:38","modified_gmt":"2022-02-11T18:30:38","slug":"cuba-employed-236000-new-workers-in-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuba-employed-236000-new-workers-in-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuba employed 236,000 new workers in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some 236,000 people found employment in Cuba last year, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) reported this Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ariel Fonseca, an official of the MTSS, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.granma.cu\/cuba\/2022-02-07\/aumento-en-2021-la-motivacion-por-el-trabajo-se-emplearon-236-000-cubanos-07-02-2022-22-02-49\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">told the official newspaper <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Granma<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that this figure exceeds 147,000 new registered workers in 2020. Of the new posts 59% correspond to the state sector \u2014 the majority in the business sphere \u2014 and the remaining 41% to the non-state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The official added that last year more than 5,000 people were employed in the cooperative sector, \u201cin which there are still employment reserves,\u201d and commented that the aim is to \u201cattract more workforce to productive activities and less to the budgeted sector.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The data disclosed indicates that a great deal of the new workforce has been absorbed by micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/msmes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MSMEs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), which since they started being approved in September 2021 have reached the figure of 1,812, of which 1,759 are private.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"2spLZCycY3\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/five-cuban-subjects-to-follow-in-2022\/\">Five Cuban subjects to follow in 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Five Cuban subjects to follow in 2022&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/five-cuban-subjects-to-follow-in-2022\/embed\/#?secret=ne8wPWldXf#?secret=2spLZCycY3\" data-secret=\"2spLZCycY3\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to official estimates, these new economic actors would have the capacity to offer employment opportunities to 27,000 people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Granma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, official organ of the Communist Party of Cuba, the implementation of the so-called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/reorderoing-task\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reorganization Task<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has among its objectives to increase people\u2019s interest in joining the workforce, something that the publication considers was achieved when analyzing these figures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba began 2021 with this comprehensive package of reforms that included the devaluation of the Cuban peso, the end of dual currency, the general increase in salaries and pensions, and the reduction of subsidies. The Task came into force in the midst of a contraction of the economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the tightening of U.S. sanctions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cuban gross domestic product (GDP) fell more than 10% in 2020 and only recovered 0.5% in the following year, according to figures from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), handled by the EFE agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cuban government itself has recognized that the \u201cproblems in the design\u201d of the system and the \u201cdifficulties\u201d in its implementation, partly due to the national and global economic situation, generated \u201ctheft,\u201d \u201cerrors\u201d and \u201cundesired results,\u201d in addition to \u201cmultiple dissatisfactions among the population.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"fleL7CXYho\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuban-government-recognizes-6900-inflation-in-informal-market\/\">Cuban government recognizes 6,900% inflation in informal market<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Cuban government recognizes 6,900% inflation in informal market&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuban-government-recognizes-6900-inflation-in-informal-market\/embed\/#?secret=YTmPNvfFlN#?secret=fleL7CXYho\" data-secret=\"fleL7CXYho\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the average Cuban, the entry into force of these measures coincided with the shortage of food and medicine, hours-long queues to buy basic products and many times in freely convertible currency stores, which only accept foreign currency through magnetic cards, when most charge exclusively in Cuban pesos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The year just ended also left an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/cuban-government-recognizes-6900-inflation-in-informal-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inflation above 70% in the retail market<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to the government, although some experts estimate real inflation (including the informal market) is around 500%, according to EFE.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EFE\/OnCuba<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>59% of the new employees were located in the state sector and mostly in the business sphere.
