As long as I have a voice and someone wants to hear me, let me sing,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Portuondo, who turned 90 in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, a round anniversary for which she had precisely embarked on another \u201ctour\u201d when the pandemic was declared, justifies the title of this next tour after \u201cso much sad news, so many goodbyes, so much distance, which have made us better understand the value of life, family and friends.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FOmaraPortuondo%2Fposts%2F521809309307338&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"590\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The diva of the Buena Vista Social Club, who anticipates that perhaps after this last tour outside of Cuba \u201cshe will have to spend more time in the studios,\u201d has just opened the contracting of concerts, for which no date has been advanced at the moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In July 2021, Portuondo <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cultura\/musica\/omara-portuondo-se-despide-de-barcelona-con-un-concierto-en-el-teatre-grec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">performed at the Teatre Grec of Barcelona<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u200b\u200bas part of her 90th birthday concerts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Portuondo (Havana, 1930) is one of the great exponents of traditional music in Cuba, where she is also revered as the \u201cbride of the filin,\u201d a genre of Cuban song that is characterized by its moving lyrics and that was born in the 1940s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her long career began in 1945 as a dancer in the famous Havana Tropicana Cabaret, but it was in song that she found her space based on the golden age of traditional music in her country, where she soon shared the stage with C\u00e9sar Portillo de la Luz and Jos\u00e9 Anthony Mendez.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a member of the D\u2019Aida Quartet along with Elena Burke, Moraima Secada and her sister Hayd\u00e9e, she accompanied stars such as \u00c9dith Piaf, Pedro Vargas, Rita Montaner, Bola de Nieve, Benny Mor\u00e9 and Nat King Cole.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is from the 1970s when her name is consolidated with its own weight by singing with the Arag\u00f3n Orchestra and recording albums such as the acclaimed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Palabras<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desaf\u00edos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the Spanish label Nubenegra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At over 70, she reinforced her position as an international star with the Buena Vista Social Club success, along with which she traveled around the world to the applause from the public and critics.
