Call Sector Key West if you have info., 305-292-8727. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SAR?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SAR<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USEmbCuba?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@USEmbCuba<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CBPSoutheast?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CBPSoutheast<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QrMEbE7WFb\">pic.twitter.com\/QrMEbE7WFb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; USCGSoutheast (@USCGSoutheast) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USCGSoutheast\/status\/1507794049666854919?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 26, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The message included a photograph of the type of board they would have used to leave the island and asked anyone who had seen a similar boat in the Keys area to inform the Coast Guard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last Wednesday, the Coast Guard rescued a Cuban diving coach in waters near the Keys who crossed the Straits of Florida on a windsurf board and wearing only a life jacket with a GPS and cell phones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eli\u00e1n L\u00f3pez, who according to his family ventured into the sea in order to receive medical care in the United States because he suffers from colon cancer, was rescued approximately 15 miles (24 km) south of Islamorada Cay and taken to a hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe requires urgent medication, being one of the reasons why he desperately risked his life,\u201d Dunia Rodr\u00edguez, his cousin, wrote in a petition on Change.org.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rodr\u00edguez <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telemundo51.com\/noticias\/local\/rescatan-a-balsero-cubano-que-llego-a-los-cayos-de-la-florida-en-tabla-de-surf\/2282006\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">confirmed to Telemundo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this Sunday that L\u00f3pez has already left the hospital and that the immigration authorities will allow him to remain in U.S. territory to receive medical care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u00f3pez recounted in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.univision.com\/local\/miami-wltv\/la-travesia-del-cubano-elian-lopez-para-llegar-windsurf-florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an interview with Univisi\u00f3n<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that he had an eventful journey due to rough seas and that when the sun began to go down, on the second day, he gave up and sent a message to two friends in Miami who were aware of his trip asking them to rescue him, that he was south of Islamorada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cUntil a good friend told me: \u2018don\u2019t wear yourself out anymore. Hold on, we\u2019re coming for you,\u201d he added. The Coast Guard rescued him just at dusk on March 23.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the fiscal year that began on October 1, 2021, more than a thousand Cubans have been
