This Thursday the United States Embassy in Havana announced that it will soon open visa appointments for immediate family members, including spouses and children under 21 years of age, of U.S. citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n

The measure complements a statement from last month announcing that the processing of all IR-5 cases (that is, parents of U.S. citizens) would begin to carry out their interviews in Havana.<\/span><\/p>\n

This Thursday\u2019s announcement expands that service to family members such as spouses and sons\/daughters of U.S. citizens: \u201cWe chose the immediate family categories in recognition of the importance of family reunification for U.S. citizens and their immediate family members. While we understand that other applicants may have difficult circumstances, given the current circumstances, the U.S. Embassy in Havana remains unable to accept transfer requests from other visa categories,\u201d reads a statement (in Spanish) from the Embassy on <\/span>Twitter<\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

And further on it specifies: \u201cWhile we are working to expand services, the United States Embassy in Georgetown, Guyana, will continue to be the main processing location for all Cuban citizens of family preference immigrant visas and cases of immediate family members already scheduled for processing at the U.S. Embassy in Guyana.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
