{"id":254797,"date":"2022-06-30T19:33:57","date_gmt":"2022-06-30T23:33:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=254797"},"modified":"2022-06-30T19:33:57","modified_gmt":"2022-06-30T23:33:57","slug":"cuban-government-suggests-u-s-refrain-from-judging-on-human-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba-usa\/cuban-government-suggests-u-s-refrain-from-judging-on-human-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuban government suggests U.S. \u201crefrain\u201d from judging on human rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Wednesday, the Cuban government asked the United States government to \u201crefrain\u201d from judging it on human rights issues. \u201cWith its deplorable record on human rights, the United States government and its secretary of state would do well to refrain from judging Cuba and other countries,\u201d Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez said on Twitter.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\">Con su deplorable trayectoria en materia de derechos humanos, el gobierno de Estados Unidos y su Secretario de Estado har\u00edan bien en abstenerse de juzgar a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Cuba?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Cuba<\/a> y a otros pa\u00edses con leyendas fabricadas y burdas campa\u00f1as calumniosas.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bruno Rodr\u00edguez P (@BrunoRguezP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrunoRguezP\/status\/1542117025903960065?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 29, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The statements respond to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who criticized the day, before also from Twitter, the prison sentences and other punitive measures against more than 550 demonstrators of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/protests-in-cuba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>July 11 anti-government protests in Cuba<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs we near the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/11J?src=hashtag_click\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#11J<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> anniversary, those protestors who remain detained should be returned home to their families,\u201d Blinken said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rodr\u00edguez affirmed this Wednesday that they are \u201cfabricated legends and gross slanderous campaigns.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cuban Attorney General\u2019s Office has issued 76 final sentences against 381 people for the protests and the most recurrent crimes are sedition, public disorder, attack and contempt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Relatives of those convicted and NGOs have criticized these actions, alleging lack of guarantees, fabrication of evidence and high sentences.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Cuban regime has condemned over 550 protestors to more than 4,000 combined years of prison or other punitive measures since the historic July 11, 2021 protests. They took place at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the country\u2019s severe economic crisis, with long queues, shortages of basic products, high inflation and prolonged power outages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cuban government has described them as \u201criots,\u201d although it came to recognize the existence of \u201clegitimate\u201d claims among the protesters.
