The Catholic Bishops of Cuba expressed this Monday their discrepancies with the new <\/span>Family Code<\/b><\/a>, and appealed to \u201cthe conscience and responsibility of all Cubans\u201d in the referendum on the regulation, which will be held on September 25.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a message <\/span>published this Monday<\/b><\/a> regarding the upcoming vote on the Code, addressed to the faithful of the Catholic Church and to all those interested in knowing their criteria on the subject, the Cuban Bishops highlighted positive aspects of the law, such as the rejection of violence in the family, and the protection of the elderly, children, the disabled and the vulnerable, but at the same time expressed their rejection of a group of issues contained in the legislation, <\/span>approved in July<\/b><\/a> by the National Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are especially opposed to the introduction in the Code of \u201cthe contents of the so-called \u2018gender ideology,\u2019\u201d which, in their opinion, \u201csupports many of the proposals,\u201d as well as the principle of \u201cprogressive autonomy,\u201d which they do not consider \u201cthe most beneficial for children and adolescents.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Similarly, they confirmed their opposition to minors \u201cbeing legally adopted by same-sex couples,\u201d as well as to \u201cmultiparenting, the application of assisted human reproduction techniques to same-sex couples or even in vitro postmortem fertilization,\u201d since, they affirmed, \u201cit is a child\u2019s right to have a father and a mother.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

They affirmed that \u201cit is not ethical for the so-called \u2018solidarity gestation\u2019 to be recognized as appropriate, in which a woman who carries a child in her womb for nine months must hand it over immediately after childbirth to other people\u201d and they pointed out that \u201cmarriage between a man and a woman, which is the natural basis of the family, cannot be displaced or deformed to make way for other legally constructed ways.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
